Full UK buyer's guide to the Leapmotor C10 electric SUV — covering the Stellantis backstop, 263-mile WLTP range, 84 kW charging limits, and what owners really think.
Leapmotor was founded in 2015 in Hangzhou, China, and grew rapidly to become the third-largest plug-in vehicle manufacturer in China. In October 2023, Stellantis — the group behind Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep, and a dozen other marques — took an approximately 21% equity stake in Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. for €1.5 billion, becoming its single largest shareholder. Simultaneously, the two companies formed Leapmotor International (LPMI), a joint venture split 51% Stellantis and 49% Leapmotor, which holds exclusive rights to sell and service Leapmotor vehicles in every market outside China. In the UK, Leapmotor launched the C10 and T03 in early 2025, sold through existing Stellantis dealer points (Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, and dedicated Leapmotor outlets). In May 2026 both companies announced plans to deepen the alliance further, including joint EV platform co-development and local European manufacturing. For a UK buyer, this structural arrangement is the most important differentiator from rival Chinese EV brands: it means Stellantis's established dealer network, European parts logistics, and aftersales infrastructure stand behind every C10 sold.
Leapmotor has adopted a deliberate single-trim strategy in the UK, matching the approach MG used successfully with the MG4. There are no confusing Good/Better/Best levels: the C10 BEV costs £36,500 on the road with every available feature included as standard — 20-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats with electric adjustment and memory, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera system, wireless phone charging, panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 10.3-inch driver display, a 12-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and full LED headlights. A C10 REEV (range-extender plug-in hybrid) was added to the range at the same £36,500 list price. Optional metallic or pearlescent paint costs from £700. Dealer competition means real transaction prices are typically several thousand pounds lower than list; Carwow showed an average saving of £2,873, with cash prices from around £31,752. Because the C10 lists below £40,000, it avoids the UK expensive-car VED supplement that catches the Tesla Model Y.
The C10 BEV carries a 69.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, integrated using a cell-to-chassis architecture that eliminates conventional battery modules and marginally improves structural rigidity. The official WLTP combined range is 263 miles. In independent UK driving at around 9 °C (typical British autumn/winter conditions), Electrifying.com recorded approximately 3.2 miles/kWh, equating to roughly 224 miles of real-world range. GreenCarGuide's mixed-conditions UK test averaged 240 miles, with a full charge displayed estimate of 260 miles. Carwow's harder testing returned approximately 200 miles. The WLTP efficiency figure of 3.4–3.8 miles/kWh trails class leaders notably: the Tesla Model Y single motor achieves around 4.5 miles/kWh, and the Kia EV3 (81.4 kWh) offers over 300 miles on a smaller-than-expected real-world penalty. A heat pump is fitted as standard, helping preserve range in cold weather. CLTC figures (used in Chinese domestic specification) are not relevant to UK buyers — only WLTP applies here.
Charging performance is the Leapmotor C10's most criticised aspect. Peak DC rapid-charging speed is capped at 84 kW — roughly half the 150–200 kW now considered standard in this class. For comparison, the Skoda Enyaq charges at 175 kW, the Tesla Model Y at 250 kW, and even the cheaper Kia EV3 at up to 100 kW. At 84 kW, a 10–80% charge takes approximately 44–45 minutes in the best case, versus around 25–30 minutes in most rivals. Leapmotor quotes 30 minutes for 30–80%, which is more optimistic. AC home charging is limited to 6.6 kW (not the 7.2 kW supported by most rivals), adding roughly an hour to a full overnight charge. The newer Leapmotor B10 supports 168 kW DC, so the C10's 84 kW limit appears to be a model-specific constraint rather than a brand-wide shortcoming. On the positive side, the C10's lower peak charge rate means it can extract full speed from even modest 50–100 kW chargers, which are cheaper at public networks. The C10 REEV charges its 28.4 kWh battery at up to 65 kW DC (30–80% in 18 minutes), competitive with most plug-in hybrids.
The Leapmotor C10 is large — at 4,739 mm in length it is almost identical in size to a Tesla Model Y. Its most obvious practical virtue is the rear cabin: legroom is described by multiple reviewers as 'limousine-like', even when seated behind a six-foot driver, and the wide flat floor means three adults in the back is feasible. The panoramic glass roof further enhances the sense of space. Boot volume of 435 litres with the rear seats up is, however, surprisingly modest for a car of this size — the shorter Skoda Elroq manages 470 litres and the Renault Scenic E-Tech 545 litres. There is a 32-litre frunk suitable for cable storage. The rear bench does not slide, which would allow space to be redistributed between passengers and boot. On the technology front, the cabin centres on a 14.6-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.3-inch driver display. All front-seat adjustment, climate control, regenerative-braking mode, driving modes, and mirror adjustment are controlled exclusively through the touchscreen — there are no physical buttons other than two multi-function steering-wheel rollers. Critically, native Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent; Leapmotor says these can be added via an OTA update, but this had not materialised at the time of UK launch reviews in early 2025. A third-party CarLinkit dongle provides a functional workaround for most users. The 12-speaker audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, and ambient lighting are genuine highlights for the price.
The Leapmotor C10 achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating with strong scores: 89% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, and 77% for vulnerable road users. Standard safety kit includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver monitoring, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic avoidance, and a safe-exit alert. On paper this is impressive. In practice, multiple professional reviewers and owners consistently identify the ADAS implementation as the C10's most frustrating characteristic. Lane-keep assist intervenes incessantly on British B-roads and even on wider A-roads that fall below the system's width threshold, physically tugging at the steering wheel while beeping continuously. The driver monitoring system misinterprets a glance at a wing mirror as driver distraction, and interprets singing or yawning as a fatigue event. GreenCarGuide counted 13 separate screen button-presses required to silence all active ADAS warnings — and they reset to default every time the car restarts. Leapmotor has acknowledged the issue and promised OTA improvements; some improvements were delivered, but the problem remained significant as of mid-2026. Insurance group is 40 (EV) or 41 (REEV), significantly above the class norm, reflecting insurer uncertainty over Chinese EV parts costs.
For fleet and company-car buyers, the Leapmotor C10 is genuinely attractive from a taxation standpoint. As a pure BEV it sits in the 3% BiK (Benefit-in-Kind) band for 2025/26, rising to 4% in 2026/27 and 5% in 2027/28 under the government's confirmed schedule. A 20% taxpayer in 2025/26 faces roughly £220 per year in company-car tax, versus a comparable petrol SUV attracting 30–40 times that. Salary-sacrifice schemes offering C10s as a take-home benefit remain very cost-effective. VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) is £0 for the first year and zero annual rate for pure EVs. Because the C10 retails below £40,000, the expensive-car supplement (£620/year from year 2) does not apply. The manufacturer warranty is 4 years or 60,000 miles comprehensive coverage, plus a separate 8-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty. The 4-year/60,000-mile vehicle warranty is better than the standard 3-year cover offered by most European and Japanese brands, though MG and Kia both offer 7-year cover. Crucially, all warranties are honoured through Stellantis's UK dealer and service network, minimising the risk of a warranty claim going unfulfilled that plagues some smaller Chinese brands.
Formal reliability data for the UK-market C10 remains thin — the car only arrived in early 2025 and no major reliability survey (What Car?, JD Power) had published statistically significant C10 results by July 2026. Early feedback from UK and European owners on Reddit and other forums paints a mixed picture. Positive comments consistently cite the exceptional rear-seat space, comfortable seats, quiet motorway cruising, and strong value for money. Negative recurring themes include: unreliable Bluetooth phone-as-key functionality requiring frequent fallback to the NFC key card; no native CarPlay requiring a third-party dongle with inconsistent behaviour; ADAS systems that intervene too aggressively and reset to default on every restart; complex multi-step menus for basic functions; and in at least one documented case a key card hardware failure that left the car immobilised. One owner's account of 9 months' use described the car as 'rushed to market with little real-world testing' — a view echoed by multiple professional reviewers. A separate owner who commented noted that OTA updates had resolved several early software bugs, including WiFi connectivity issues, and that once the phone-key system is correctly configured it works reliably. The consensus appears to be: the underlying car (space, range, value) is solid, but software and usability maturity lag mainstream European rivals by roughly 12–18 months.
Brand-exit risk — the prospect that a manufacturer withdraws from the UK market, leaving owners without parts, warranty support, or a dealer network — is the most cited concern around Chinese EV brands in the UK. It is the fate that befell some early Chinese entrants in European markets. The Leapmotor C10's structural position is materially different from standalone Chinese EV brands. Stellantis's 51% control of LPMI means that in the event Leapmotor itself faced financial difficulty, Stellantis would continue to honour warranty obligations and maintain parts supply through its own infrastructure. Stellantis has over 1,000 authorised service points across the UK. Its €1.5 billion investment and the May 2026 announcement of deeper co-development make an abrupt exit economically irrational. The principal residual risks for UK C10 buyers are: (1) higher-than-average insurance premiums (group 40–41) reflecting insurer uncertainty over Chinese EV parts costs; (2) reported dealer knowledge gaps where some Stellantis dealer staff lack deep C10 product knowledge; (3) the early-adopter software immaturity described in owner reviews. Compared with buying a BYD, MG, Omoda, or other brands distributed by standalone Chinese entities in the UK, the C10's Stellantis backing represents a significantly lower brand-exit risk profile.
The Leapmotor C10 occupies an unusual position in the UK electric-car market: it offers D-segment (Tesla Model Y-class) dimensions and interior space at C-segment pricing, underpinned by a Stellantis safety net that no other Chinese brand can match. Against the MG4 EV (from approximately £26,995 for the Standard Range): the C10 is significantly larger with substantially more rear space, but the MG4 is lighter, more efficient, charges at up to 150 kW, and benefits from a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty. The MG4 is also sharper to drive and has Apple CarPlay. At a similar price point the C10's size advantage is its trump card; for lone drivers or couples without demanding boot requirements, the MG4 is the better-resolved product. Against the BYD Atto 3 (from approximately £36,990): both are Chinese-origin mid-size electric SUVs in the same price bracket. The Atto 3 charges faster (up to 110 kW DC), and BYD has a more established track record in the UK. The C10 wins on rear-seat space and has the Stellantis structural advantage. Neither car's ADAS is particularly loved, though the C10's has attracted more criticism in UK conditions. For buyers who primarily need a large family SUV at this price, value the Stellantis service network backstop, and are prepared to accept some early-adopter software roughness, the C10 is a compelling proposition. For those who prioritise charging speed, proven software, or outright driving dynamics, the Kia EV3 Air or Skoda Elroq 60 are stronger alternatives despite being physically smaller.
