SEAL Premium vs Polestar 2 Long range Single motor: equipment or liftback access?

Compare the current Australian SEAL Premium and Polestar 2 LRSM for liftback access, standard equipment, option packs and complete driveaway costs.

Start with SEAL for included cabin equipment; Polestar for a liftback that proves useful

I would visit SEAL Premium first if heated and ventilated front seats, the parking camera and the current Australian cabin equipment solve everyday needs without adding option packs. I would visit Polestar 2 Long range Single motor first if the roof-hinged liftback and shorter body help with your actual loading and parking task. Its standard power tailgate is useful to test, but its 360-degree camera, heat pump and panoramic roof come through different packs.

Neither preference is a completed price verdict. We have a SEAL configurator reference and no matched Polestar driveaway proposal with the relevant packs. Load the same pram and luggage, try the same access and ask for both cars configured as you would buy them. A larger WLTP figure or an old comparison's price does not settle that task.

Premium RWD and the current Long range Single motor are the selected cars

The current Australian SEAL choice table identifies Premium with rear-wheel drive, 230 kW and the Blade battery. Its linked 2026 brochure gives 82.56 kWh and five seats. Performance's 390 kW all-wheel-drive system and DiSus-C damping are different equipment; Premium is identified with Frequency Selective Damping. We do not turn the suspension description into an own ride result.

Polestar's Australian specification page currently lists Long range Single motor with rear-wheel drive, 220 kW and an 82 kWh battery. It is not the old Standard range car used in some earlier buying comparisons, nor the Dual motor or Performance version. There are current configuration and available-car routes, but no vehicle was allocated or ordered for this article.

Have build year, exact grade, packs, paint, wheels and delivery recorded on the proposals. An active model page or a configurator screen does not establish stock for your preferred specification.

A visible model amount is not a completed driveaway quote

The BYD dealer-group configurator shows Premium at A$52,990. It asks for a postcode to estimate driveaway cost and displays an NSW/private-registration basis, while the unfinished order total reads zero. It also retains an estimated February/March 2025 delivery message. That stale date is not a current delivery promise. We have not treated the model amount as a confirmed full cash total or applied a generic finance or novated-lease offer.

Polestar's current configuration route returned the initial application shell rather than a completed LRSM quote. We have no matched current amount for the car and packs selected here. Do not substitute an old review price or the obsolete Standard range starting figure.

Request postcode-specific totals with registration, CTP where applicable, stamp duty, dealer charges, paint, packs and delivery identified. Separate cash from finance, and compare deposit, interest, fees and final payment when using credit. No state duty saving or personal tax treatment has been calculated.

The liftback opening matters more than a seven-litre difference

Polestar 2 has five doors including a roof-hinged tailgate. Its manufacturer lists 407 litres with the seats up, including underfloor space, and 1,097 with seats folded. The 43-litre underfloor compartment is not another 43 litres to add to the already inclusive 407. Front storage is separately listed at 41 litres.

SEAL's current brochure declares 400 litres rear and 53 litres front. We have not established a common luggage-measuring method or performed a packing test. Bring the same pram, bags and bulky object, retain the seats occupied on the journey, and check the opening and closure. A liftback may make a particular object easier to position, but the shape must prove that advantage with your load.

SEAL is declared at 4,800 mm long; Polestar at 4,606 mm. The editorial difference is 194 mm. Measure the parking and door-clearance task rather than inferring a winner from length or a camera image alone.

Match the camera and heating packs before comparing the cars

BYD's current Australian material describes the SEAL Premium/Performance cabin with heated and ventilated front seats, a power driver's seat, 360-degree camera, panoramic glass roof, electric sunshade and heat-pump climate system. Confirm the Premium order specification and the functions on the car; overseas images and Performance damping do not add features to the selected grade.

Polestar lists a rear camera and park-assist sensors as standard. The 360-degree view and further assistance belong to Pilot pack. Heated front seats are standard, but Climate pack adds the heat pump, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel. Plus pack adds the panoramic roof and the hands-free/soft-close functions to the already power-operated tailgate. Front-seat ventilation requires the Nappa upgrade and Plus pack; do not assume heated seats are ventilated.

Choose only the packs you need, add their actual quoted cost and try the same functions in both cars. A standard-versus-option distinction is useful information, but it does not establish which complete purchase is cheaper.

Compare the current WLTP references without calling them your trip

SEAL Premium is declared at 570 km combined WLTP in Australian material. The brochure also prints a NEDC reference, which is a different test and is not substituted for the WLTP figure in this comparison. The current Polestar LRSM specification gives 659 km WLTP and notes that real conditions vary with driving and external factors. Neither is a loaded holiday or winter journey measured by CathayEV.

Do not assume 82.56 and 82 kWh use the same useful or gross capacity definition, or derive electricity purchased simply from the nominal numbers. Annual cost needs your distance, tariff, purchased energy including losses, insurance, tyres, servicing and installation. We have not produced a payback calculation, residual-value forecast or measured efficiency advantage for either current configuration.

Australian SEAL charging is not the European specification

The current Australian SEAL brochure lists Type 2 AC at 7 kW and CCS2 DC at 150 kW for the selected current range. Do not import 11 kW AC from another market. Polestar's current Australian 82 kWh specification lists 11 kW AC and up to 205 kW DC, with 28 minutes from 10 to 80%. We did not obtain a common measured SEAL session against that reference, so there is no demonstrated difference in minutes stopped.

Actual charging depends on the supply, station, battery condition and state of charge. An 11 kW rating does not make a single-phase home installation deliver 11 kW. Ask for supplied cables and a complete installation assessment, and check connector, access, payment and an alternative on the public route. BYD's configurator lists a charger accessory separately and says installation is excluded. Neither that item nor an order page constitutes a commissioned home charger.

Check the applicable warranties and the actual assistance package

BYD's current model page advertises vehicle coverage of six years/150,000 km and traction-battery coverage of eight years/160,000 km, with terms and exclusions. Polestar's page lists five-year vehicle coverage and an eight-year/160,000 km battery statement explicitly marked for MY25 and MY26, including a 70% state-of-health condition. Confirm the model year and actual warranty contract for the quoted car before treating the coverage as applicable.

We have not matched a common ANCAP or other crash-test assessment to both exact ordered configurations and packs. Camera coverage and assistance lists do not create a crash-test winner. Nor do overseas owner stories establish an Australian failure rate, parts delay or resale result. Request the local service route and assistance terms, and learn the limits of any fitted Pilot assistance rather than treating it as autonomous driving.

The local comparison is a starting point; the current grades supply the facts

The complete Australian CarsGuide comparison places SEAL and Polestar 2 in the same buying conversation. Its selected 2024 SEAL and review-state Polestar prices and driving opinions are not our current Premium/LRSM quotation or an own twin test. The current Australian manufacturer pages and grade documents determine the battery, equipment and option boundaries used here.

A foreign-market SEAL charging rating, an old Standard range Polestar price or a Chinese owner story does not define these current selections. Where the postcode quote, usable battery basis, delivery or package cost remains open, it stays open in the recommendation. The figures should help you prepare the family demonstration rather than replace it.

Decide whether the opening or included equipment solves the bigger problem

Start with SEAL Premium when its seat comfort features and parking equipment suit the family and the saloon opening takes your actual load. Keep its exact Australian charging specification and completed driveaway amount in the decision.

Start with Polestar LRSM when the liftback and shorter body prove useful, then add only the camera, climate, roof or ventilation options you would buy. If the desired packs or the delivery date change the proposal too much, reconsider the specification rather than comparing an imaginary fully equipped base car.

Expand the Australian alternatives if neither meets the task. This is documentary research from Australian sources read on 19 October 2026 UTC. The 194 mm length difference is editorial arithmetic. No own driving, ride, parking, charging, luggage, range, collision or reliability test was conducted; both personal purchase proposals remain incomplete.

Questions for the Australian quotes

Is the A$52,990 SEAL figure a finished driveaway quote?
No complete postcode-specific proposal was obtained. The configurator requests a postcode, has an unfinished total and retains a stale 2025 delivery message. Obtain current charges, specification and delivery in writing.
Does Polestar 2 include the 360 camera and heat pump?
The current Australian specification puts the 360 camera in Pilot pack and the heat pump in Climate pack. The panoramic roof is Plus; front ventilation requires Nappa upgrade and Plus. Heated front seats and power tailgate are standard.
Should the 43-litre underfloor compartment be added to 407 litres?
Polestar says the 407-litre seats-up total includes underfloor space. Do not add the 43-litre compartment again. Try the same load; the SEAL figure is not a common packing test.
Does the Australian SEAL Premium have 11 kW AC charging?
The current Australian brochure lists 7 kW Type 2 AC. The selected Polestar is 11 kW AC. Actual supply and station conditions must still be checked; overseas SEAL specifications are not assumed.
