Local price: the Australia drive-away "from" figure AUas recorded in our facts ledger. "No data yet" is deliberate - AU price tracking started in Aug 2026 and fills in daily; we never relabel a UK price as local. The UK column is the on-the-road reference UK from our UK intelligence base, shown for context only and never converted. Range figures are UK WLTP UK; local range ratings are recorded separately as they land. Rows marked Estimated need a human check - accuracy over completeness.
Beyond the UK line-up
On Australian sale with no UK counterpart. Specs stay blank until our ledger has them - placeholders, not promises.
BYD's plug-in hybrid dual-cab ute - the first serious electrified challenge to the diesel ute establishment.
On sale AUSAIC's electric dual-cab ute, sold under the LDV badge - a niche fleet play ahead of the Shark 6.
On sale AULocal essentials
The money, rules and daily realities that make Australia its own market - editorially seeded from our localization module, with a source and a checked date on every line.
Money
Australian prices are quoted drive-away: stamp duty and registration are set by each state and territory, so the same car prices differently in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Eligible battery-electric cars are exempt from fringe benefits tax, which is what makes a novated lease on an EV so much cheaper than on a petrol car - the whole payment comes out of pre-tax salary.
The FBT exemption applies only up to the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles (about A$91,000, indexed annually) - the exact current figure needs check before we quote it.
Plug-in hybrids lost the FBT exemption for new arrangements from 1 April 2025 - for a ute like the Shark 6, only leases started before that date keep the tax break.
Regulation
ANCAP is Australasia's own crash programme. Its protocols are broadly aligned with Euro NCAP, but it tests to its own criteria, often on the Australasian-spec car - a five-star Euro NCAP rating does not convert to five ANCAP stars.
ANCAP ratings for these models land here as the facts ledger records them - no rating is shown until it is sourced.
Most state and territory EV purchase rebates have ended; what remains varies by state and changes often. We do not list rebate figures until each is re-verified.
The New Vehicle Efficiency Standard applies to car brands from 2025, pushing importers to bring more EVs to Australia - it is a supply rule, not a buyer discount.
Ownership
The dual-cab ute is Australia's default family vehicle, so the BYD Shark 6 matters here in a way no UK reader would recognise - towing and payload ratings decide whether an electrified ute is taken seriously.
Intercity distances make highway range the number that counts; quoted city-biased figures under-sell how far apart chargers can be on regional routes.
Sustained summer heat accelerates battery degradation and slows rapid charging; Australian owners should weigh thermal management more than UK buyers do.
Charging: Chargefox, Evie Networks, Tesla Supercharger (open sites).
Say it like a local: ute, drive-away, novated lease, rego. ute = a pickup truck; Australia's defining vehicle segment; drive-away = price including stamp duty, registration and delivery; novated lease = salary-packaged car lease paid from pre-tax salary; rego = vehicle registration, paid to the state or territory.
Coverage note: this page is new and builds daily. The Cathay radar is currently tracking 6 recent Australia signals, and the facts ledger records Australia prices, ANCAP ratings and sales figures as they are verified. Figures from our UK intelligence base stay labelled UK so you always know which market a number belongs to.
