Privacy notice

The short version: we collect your email address only if you ask for alerts, we use it only to send them, and you can stop them at any time. We set no advertising cookies.

Who is responsible

Cathay EV (cathayev.com) is run by Kai Zhang, its editor-in-chief, who decides how the data described here is used. Questions or requests: corrections@cathayev.com.

Price and launch alerts

What we collect. Your email address, the market edition you signed up in and the page you signed up on. When you click the link in our confirmation email, our email provider also records when you confirmed and from which IP address, as proof that you asked for the emails.

Why, and on what basis. To send the alerts you asked for: price changes and new Chinese EVs going on sale. The legal basis is your consent under the UK GDPR, which you give by ticking the box and confirming by email. We do not add you to anything else, and we never sell or share your address.

Who processes it. Our emails are sent by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which stores the list on our behalf.

How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your address on a do-not-email list, so that we never write to you again. If you never confirm, we send nothing after the confirmation email.

Stopping the emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we will remove you.

Reading the site

We count visits with Umami, which sets no cookies and does not identify you; it records pages viewed, the referring site, the country and the type of device. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs for security and reliability.

Writing to us

Email sent to a cathayev.com address is passed on to our inbox by Forward Email (Forward Email LLC, United States). We use what you send only to reply to you or to correct the site.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent at any time. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
