IM6 Premium 75 vs EV6 Air 84 MY27: body size, parking equipment and the Australian quote

Compare current Australian entry grades, charging windows and family fit while keeping the NSW cashback display separate from a complete local Kia quote.

Parking technology has to earn its place in a larger family car

I would try IM6 Premium first when its rear steering, camera coverage and included comfort equipment solve tasks the household repeats, and its larger body fits. I would try current EV6 Air first when the shorter car, its controls and its declared route-planning range work better for the family. A parking feature cannot substitute for space beside the doors.

The Australian Premium is the 75 kWh car, not the 800 V Platinum. The EV6 selected here is the current 84 kWh MY27 Air RWD, not a 77.4 kWh brochure or a GT-Line displayed in the feature photography. Those distinctions change charging, range and equipment enough to alter the shortlist before price is considered.

Bring the same occupants, restraints and luggage to both demonstrations. Decide what the car must do on an ordinary week, then price the exact builds. Neither a larger boot declaration nor a month-end cashback establishes the better family vehicle by itself.

Premium 75 and MY27 Air 84 are current Australian commercial selections

MG's Australian model page and configurator identify Premium with a 75 kWh LFP battery, 217 kW rear motor and 400 V IGBT platform. The manufacturer offers an order and test-drive route and advertises stock available now, without identifying a particular unit for this household. Platinum 100 and Performance have separate technical columns.

Kia's current national feature page identifies Air RWD with 84 kWh and 582 km WLTP. Its linked MY27 brochure specifies 168 kW RWD and five seats. The document also says MY27 inspections will occur when available and specifications can change; it is not an inspection of the delivered car. Ask the dealer to confirm exact model year, build, equipment and handover before paying.

Both selected cars have current Australian quotation routes. Neither manufacturer page reserves a VIN, establishes the paint in your dealer's stock or supplies the household's final invoice.

A$57,990 already includes the cashback

The current IM6 configurator displays NSW delivery with private registration, Athena White and no added options. Premium shows A$60,990 reduced to A$57,990, with A$3,000 cashback already included. Do not subtract it again. The stated driveaway basis includes registration, CTP, estimated stamp duty and dealer delivery, with actual circumstances and final dealer pricing still to confirm.

The main offer applies to eligible new cars sold and delivered through participating dealers from 1 to 31 October 2026, while stocks last, with fleet, government and rental exclusions. Separate eligible EV accessories-bonus terms describe an alternative purchase-price application; that is not an automatic extra deduction from every displayed invoice. Ask the dealer which benefits apply to the identified vehicle.

Kia's current Air build-and-price asks for location and no complete local total was obtained. We do not use a review's earlier model-year price to create a saving against MG. Obtain both complete proposals for the same state, buyer, colour and options, then compare finance by deposit, payments, fees and final obligations separately.

209 mm of declared length deserves a real parking trial

The IM6 brochure gives 4,904 mm long, 1,988 mm wide and 1,669 mm high. The current EV6 Air sheet gives 4,695 mm long and 1,880 mm wide. Subtracting the published lengths gives 209 mm; it does not measure an easier turn, a mirror-to-wall clearance or more usable rear-seat room. The width fields are not used to promise a common clearance advantage.

Premium includes four-wheel steering. Demonstrate the same safe approach and exit that matter at home, then open the doors and tailgate. Rear-wheel steering changes the manoeuvre; it does not narrow the exterior or move a wall. A shorter alternative may still fit less conveniently if the actual openings do not suit the passengers.

MG declares 665 litres rear and 32 litres front. Kia declares 490 litres VDA rear and a separate 52-litre front compartment for Air RWD. Their methods have not been harmonised and compartments are not one opening. Pack the same bulky object while retaining every passenger seat needed.

Premium has included functions that Air does not inherit from GT-Line

Premium's exact Australian columns mark 360 camera, four-wheel steering, power heated/ventilated front seats, rear-seat heating, heated steering wheel and hands-free powered tailgate. The brochure does not mark air suspension for Premium. Neither a Performance demonstration nor the website's general air-suspension description adds that feature to the selected car.

EV6 Air has a rear-view camera and manual six-way front seats, with driver lumbar adjustment in the current MY27 table. Its column does not mark heated or ventilated front seats, heated wheel, wide sunroof, surround-view camera or the hands-free power tailgate. Those headline features elsewhere in the range are not part of this Air comparison.

Demonstrate the seat and parking functions before treating them as comfort or usability wins. Both provide smartphone connection and their own controls; try the same phone, climate adjustment and charging settings while parked. A screen's size or an automated function's name does not establish how easily you will use it.

450 and 582 km belong to the selected versions

IM6 Premium declares 450 km combined WLTP. EV6 Air RWD MY27 declares 582 km combined WLTP on 19-inch wheels. The larger-battery IM6 Platinum's 555 km and a GT-Line EV6 reference do not describe these selections. Neither current figure guarantees the loaded highway distance in your weather.

Use the longest trip you repeatedly make, destination charging and a comfortable arrival margin. Kia's higher declaration is a reason to investigate the route, not a promise of a particular number of stops. Compare the charging sites you can actually reach and use, with a fallback for a queue or outage.

For ownership, use kilometres, home/public electricity purchased, losses, installation, insurance and servicing. No matched depreciation or repair-cost dataset supports a payback or annual-saving claim. A larger nominal battery and a displayed cashback are different inputs; neither substitutes for the household budget.

Twenty and eighteen minutes cover different battery intervals

Premium's brochure specifies 153 kW maximum DC and 20 minutes from 30 to 80%, with 11 kW AC and CCS Type 2. It does not receive Platinum's 396 kW or 800 V SiC specification. Manufacturer conditions and the actual charger remain material; peak power is not sustained power through a session.

Kia's MY27 sheet specifies 10.5 kW AC, Type 2 AC and CCS Type 2 DC. It gives about 18 minutes from 10 to 80% on a 350 kW charger, or about 81 minutes on 50 kW. The 350 kW station rating is not a claimed vehicle peak. There is no common timed session here and the 30-80% MG interval cannot be ranked by subtracting it from Kia's 10-80% figure.

For home or work, obtain supply, permissions, compatible equipment and a complete installation assessment. For a regular public stop include detour, arrival charge, battery preparation, payment and a reachable alternative. Charging capability matters when the ordinary route can use it, not merely when it appears on a specification card.

Ask which workshop and cover apply to the identified build

Obtain current vehicle and battery cover, maintenance requirements, workshop location and assistance arrangements for both actual vehicles. A larger network or a long feature list is not a measured parts-delivery result. No matched sample of faults, repair delays or resale outcomes was assembled here.

Driver assistance and parking functions remain support for an attentive driver, with operating conditions and limits. Have the retailer explain activation and cancellation without provoking emergency interventions. No common crash, avoidance or autonomous-parking test establishes a safety winner in this article.

If a connected feature affects the decision, confirm the phone, activation and subscription terms. Do not assume every advertised service or accessory is included for the whole period of ownership.

Choose the body and equipment that pass the same family week

Choose Premium first when the larger body fits, the included comfort and steering functions make a useful difference you can verify and the exact driveaway proposal is attractive. Choose Air first when its shorter body, controls and current 84 kWh route plan serve the household better and the completed local proposal is worthwhile.

If either fails the essential passengers, load or charging task, expand the Australian shortlist. Keep the exact build and ordinary journey attached to the decision; do not upgrade an entry grade mentally to the car used in a demonstration or photographed on the page.

Current Australian documents guide a demonstration, not a new twin test

Manufacturer pages and the exact Australian Premium and MY27 Air columns were read on 19 October 2026 UTC. The 209 mm length difference is editorial subtraction of published values. The complete driveaway comparison remains open, and Kia's inspection and specification caveat remains attached to its current document.

An Australian EV6/IM6 comparison establishes local rival intent only; its Performance/GT-Line review facts and earlier prices are not adopted as Premium/Air evidence. No CathayEV road, parking, packing, charge-curve, winter-range, crash or reliability test was conducted, and no vehicle or installation was ordered.

Questions before choosing these Australian rear-drive EVs

Does Premium have the 800 V system and air suspension?
The selected 75 kWh Premium uses 400 V IGBT and 153 kW DC. The brochure does not include air suspension in its Premium column; Platinum/Performance figures are separate.
Does A$57,990 need another A$3,000 deducted?
No. The current NSW private-registration display already includes that cashback. Confirm exact buyer, vehicle, dates, paint, options and any separately eligible benefit on the dealer proposal.
Does EV6 Air get the heated seats and 360 camera in the photos?
The current MY27 Air column does not mark heated/ventilated front seats, surround-view camera, wide sunroof or power tailgate. Use its own equipment column.
Does 20 versus 18 minutes show a two-minute difference?
MG uses 30–80% and Kia 10–80%, with separate batteries, chargers and conditions. No common session or two-minute saving was measured.
