Our take
The BYD ATTO 3 EVO is the updated version of BYD's compact electric SUV, one of the better-known Chinese EVs in Australia. BYD builds its own batteries. It suits families who want a practical SUV for school runs and commuting, with a boot that is a fair size for the class. The Essential is listed at $39,990 before on-road costs and quotes 345 km WLTP, which is enough for daily use but tight for regular country driving. Charging is the other compromise: the Essential peaks at 70 kW on DC, so long trips call for patience at the charger. Check the range against your longest regular drive.
