Our take
The MG4 EV Urban is the front-drive hatch MG sells under the MG4 name, not the rear-drive MG4 EV that buyers often confuse it with. MG is owned by China's state-backed SAIC Motor. It suits city drivers who want a roomy, low-cost EV. The Essence 43 costs $31,990 drive-away in New South Wales and quotes 316 km WLTP, which is fine around town but short for regular country trips. MG's own figures for peak DC charging power disagree, so we do not quote one. A cashback offer is also running, so check the current price on MG's site. The boot holds 382 litres, plus an underfloor tray.
