IM6 Premium vs Polestar 4: Australian kit, rear view and quotes
Compare the rear-view task and included comfort kit first. Price the actual Polestar packs, then compare complete Australian proposals with the IM6 cashback conditions.
Try rear vision and the included seats before comparing the offers
Start with IM6 Premium if you want the brochure’s front ventilation, rear-seat heating and four-wheel steering included in the selected grade, and its controls work for both regular drivers. Start with Polestar 4 Rear motor if its camera-based rear view suits you, its actual standard package meets your needs and its complete MY27 quote is acceptable. Do not assume a Polestar demonstrator’s Comfort, Plus or Nappa features are standard on the car being priced.
Both are substantial electric family cars, and both need more than a quick screen demonstration. Set up the seat and mirrors, check the rear view with passengers aboard, reverse into a realistic space and use the climate and navigation controls. If one regular driver dislikes the view or cannot operate essential functions comfortably, a favourable finance headline should not decide the order.
The selected IM6 is Premium with the 75 kWh battery, not Performance with air suspension. The selected Polestar is the current Rear motor commercial offering, not a Dual motor performance car. We have not driven either in this comparison; the judgment concerns the documented Australian equipment and the practical checks that could change your purchase.
Premium 75 and the current MY27 Rear motor offer
Premium’s Australian brochure gives rear-wheel drive, a 75 kWh LFP battery, 217 kW and 450 Nm. That capacity is not labelled gross or usable. Its 400 V IGBT platform and charging figures are distinct from the larger-battery IM6 grades; the Performance model’s suspension and acceleration impressions cannot establish how this Premium will ride.
Polestar’s current Australian Rear motor column gives rear-wheel drive, 200 kW and 343 Nm with a 100 kWh, 400 V battery. Its Australian site actively advertises pre-configured MY27 cars and configuration or sales routes. Confirm that the offered car has the selected equipment and the stated model year; a general specification page is not a reserved vehicle.
The IM6 configurator currently says stock is available and shows Premium with Athena White, Highland Grey trim and 20-inch wheels in its default selection. Obtain a proposal for your state, registration type, paint, accessories and delivery date. Neither an active sales route nor a stock headline guarantees that the exact car is allocated, especially where an offer requires delivery before the end of the month.

Polestar’s rear-view camera is part of the decision, not an option to ignore
Polestar 4 replaces the conventional rear-windscreen view with a rear-view HD camera. Its digital mirror can show the camera feed or switch to a regular mirror view of rear passengers. Demonstrate both modes from your own driving position, with your usual glasses if applicable, and ask how to keep the camera clear and what the manual requires if its view is obstructed.
That choice deserves time before ordering. A wide camera image does not establish your preference for distance judgement or a comfortable change of focus. Check the side mirrors and parking-camera transitions as well as the straight-ahead rear view. A second driver should repeat the task rather than rely on the first driver’s impression.
IM6 Premium lists a 360-degree HD camera and four-wheel steering. These are useful reasons to try a realistic parking manoeuvre, but they do not prove easier parking or an unobstructed rear view in every situation. Do not adopt a Performance review’s sightline or ride impressions as a Premium test. Check the supplied car with the rear passengers and load you expect to carry.
Polestar’s standard list includes a 360-degree camera with 3D view and front, rear and side ultrasonic sensors. Its Park assist pilot is described with the Pilot pack and future introduction; it should not be counted as a delivered parking feature merely because the page mentions it. All assistance functions require the driver to check the surroundings.

A ventilated Polestar demonstrator may include the Nappa upgrade
The IM6 Premium brochure includes powered front seats, front heating and ventilation, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. It also lists a heat pump, hands-free power tailgate and twenty speakers. Those features are in Premium’s selected column; its air suspension and continuously controlled damping are not. Try seat adjustment and ventilation rather than assume the package is comfortable for everyone.
Polestar’s standard list includes heated front seats, driver memory, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a six-way passenger seat. Comfort adds rear-seat heating, heated steering wheel, power-operated steering column and twelve-way powered front seats. The Nappa upgrade brings front ventilation and massage. Their presence in a demonstrator does not establish inclusion in an unoptioned Rear motor price.
Plus is another distinction to keep on the quote. Polestar lists its head-up display, upgraded Harman Kardon audio, rear control screen, three-zone climate and foot-sensor tailgate operation with Plus. The standard car already has a soft-closing powered tailgate, two-zone climate, a heat pump and eight-speaker audio. A powered tailgate and a foot sensor are not the same feature.
For a family, test whether the rear occupants can get comfortable, reach their controls and use the air vents with the front seats set correctly. Ask for every required pack to be named and priced on the same proposal. If rear heating or front ventilation is a requirement, price the Polestar configuration that actually supplies it before comparing with Premium.

Use a common charging plan, not two different session windows
IM6 Premium lists an 11 kW onboard AC charger and 153 kW maximum DC. Its quoted DC session is twenty minutes from 30 to 80 per cent under manufacturer conditions. The 396 kW and shorter session references for larger-battery grades are not Premium specifications. Confirm the supplied cables and the installation needed to use your available home supply.
Polestar lists 11 kW AC as standard, with 22 kW a separate option. Its 200 kW DC reference comes with a thirty-minute session from 10 to 80 per cent. IM6’s 30-80 window and Polestar’s 10-80 window add different shares of their different batteries. They are not evidence that IM6 completes the same replenishment ten minutes sooner.
Premium’s declared combined WLTP range is 450 km. Polestar labels 620 km for Rear motor as a WLTP range target. Preserve that target label, and do not treat either figure as a joint Australian motorway result. Wheels, temperature, speed, load and climate use affect an actual journey; the larger reference cannot replace a route and charging-access check.
For home use, have a qualified installer assess the supply rather than assume that either 11 kW maximum is available at every property. For a regular longer trip, identify accessible chargers, suitable breaks and an alternative stop. If the Polestar’s extra declared range is central to the decision, confirm the offered configuration and its certification before ordering.

Check the actual parking space and loading line
IM6’s brochure lists 4,904 mm length and 1,988 mm width without describing a mirror-inclusive basis for that width. Polestar lists 4,840 mm length, 2,067 mm with mirrors folded and 2,139 mm with them extended. Do not subtract those widths to announce a like-for-like garage advantage. Check mirrors, doors and the space needed to use the tailgate at home.
Premium declares 665 litres behind the seats and 1,640 with them folded, plus a separate 32-litre front compartment. Polestar declares 526 litres with seats up and 1,536 folded, including underfloor space, plus 15 litres at the front. We have not established a common measurement or loaded both cars. The quoted litres cannot guarantee that a particular pram, work case or pet arrangement fits.
Try the same belongings below the required cover or loading line, keeping the passenger seats you need. Check whether the charging cable remains accessible with the rear compartment full. For child seats, confirm the approved positions and anchor layout in the supplied manuals; a brochure count is not permission to fit three particular child seats together.
Use the parking demonstration to understand four-wheel steering in the Premium, and the actual camera views in both cars, without describing the exercise as an autonomous capability. If a feature is not operating on the supplied car, a promise of a future software function should not substitute for the equipment you need today.

IM6 cashback and Polestar’s rate are different proposals
The current IM6 default configurator card shows A$60,990 before a A$3,000 cashback and A$57,990 after it. Its default selection is NSW and private registration, not a personalised quote for every state or buyer. The driveaway terms describe registration, CTP, maximum dealer delivery and estimated stamp duty, with options excluded. Confirm the complete amount for the actual car.
MG’s October offer requires eligible sale and delivery from participating dealers between 1 and 31 October 2026, while stocks last. Fleet, government and rental buyers are excluded. The separate A$500 EV accessories bonus may instead be elected as a purchase-price reduction and can combine with the applicable IM6 cashback, subject to its own eligibility and ordering terms. Do not apply both forms of that A$500 bonus or assume it is already included twice.
Polestar advertises a 0.80 per cent annual comparison rate for pre-configured MY27 cars, with a minimum ten per cent deposit, a 36-month term and no balloon. The campaign covers orders from 1 October to 30 November 2026 and delivery by 31 December; applications must be submitted by 30 November and settled by 15 December. Approval and stock conditions apply, and government, fleet, rental and novated-lease customers are excluded.
The comparison-rate example itself uses A$30,000 over five years, which is different from the campaign’s 36-month term. Government charges and a possible dealer origination fee of up to A$995 are not all included in the rate. We have not established an exact Rear motor cash driveaway price, configured option total or finance total, so there is no justified cash or repayment winner. Obtain a complete proposal with the packs you need.
This documentary comparison uses Australian primary sources checked on 20 October 2026 and makes no road, charging or comfort-test claim. Choose Premium if the included equipment and demonstrated controls work at its complete eligible price. Choose Rear motor if its rear-view system and supplied configuration suit the family at an acceptable full cost. See other Australian buying guides if either misses a requirement.
Questions before choosing the Australian configuration
- Is the IM6 comparison about Premium or Performance?
- Premium 75 kWh RWD, with 217 kW and 450 Nm. Its Australian column lists four-wheel steering but not the Performance model’s air suspension or larger-battery charging figures. A Performance road review cannot establish Premium ride quality.
- Does Polestar 4 have a conventional rear-windscreen view?
- Polestar uses a rear-view HD camera and digital mirror. The mirror can switch to a regular view of rear passengers. Try it from your own position and ask about cleaning, obstruction and the relevant manual instructions before deciding.
- Are ventilated seats and rear heating standard in Rear motor?
- The current standard list includes heated powered front seats. Rear heating and twelve-way front seats are Comfort items; front ventilation is with the Nappa upgrade. IM6 Premium lists front ventilation and rear heating in its selected column. Verify the packs on the actual Polestar quote.
- Does twenty-minute charging beat Polestar’s thirty minutes?
- The figures use different windows. IM6 Premium quotes twenty minutes from 30 to 80 per cent; Polestar quotes thirty minutes from 10 to 80. They also have different battery capacities and conditions, so this is not a matched stop-time result.
- Can I compare IM6’s A$57,990 with Polestar’s 0.80 per cent?
- One is a conditional default configurator price after cashback; the other is a comparison-rate advertisement with deposit, term, eligibility and fee conditions. Obtain an exact configured cash or finance proposal for each. An exact Polestar cash price or total payable is not established here.
