B10 Design vs EX5 Complete: cabin kit and the NZ$49,990 quote
B10 Design for cabin extras you will use; EX5 Complete for its everyday equipment and local cover. Match delivered quotes and test family fit first.
Start with B10 for its cabin extras; with EX5 for a simpler specification and ownership check
I would test the Leapmotor B10 Design first if ventilated front seats, its audio system and rear-wheel-drive layout are things you actually want to experience. I would start with the Geely EX5 Complete if your priorities are family access, heated everyday equipment and the local ownership package, without paying for Inspire features. Both publish a NZ$49,990 starting reference before on-road costs, so the useful question is what each complete proposal delivers, not which headline looks cheaper.
Neither is a universal winner. The EX5 Complete does not inherit the panoramic roof, ventilated massage seats, head-up display or powered tailgate shown elsewhere in Geely's range. B10 Design does have meaningful cabin additions over Life, but more equipment is not proof of better seating or an easier interface. Take your family and phone to both cars before deciding which list matters.
Resolve home charging at the same time. These are battery-electric SUVs, not the B10 with a petrol generator or the Starray plug-in hybrid. A larger battery and similar official range do not remove the need for a reliable charging place, a viable regular route and a delivered-price quote.
B10 BEV Design 67.1 and EX5 Complete are the two objects to order
The B10 selected here is the New Zealand battery-electric Design: 67.1 kWh, a 160 kW motor and rear-wheel drive. Auckland Auto Group separates it from BEV Life and Ultra Hybrid EV Design. The latter has a much smaller battery and a petrol generator; its lower price and combined range do not belong in this comparison.
Geely's current New Zealand specification sheet identifies Complete with a 60 kWh LFP battery, 160 kW motor and front-wheel drive. The sheet prints 60 kWh; we do not silently replace it with a more precise figure from a foreign-market car. Inspire Extended Range is a separate 68 kWh specification with different range and equipment.
Both have current local sales and enquiry routes. Armstrong's B10 page says available to order while marking that particular listing under offer. That does not mean the range is unavailable, and it does not promise you can reserve the pictured car. Ask for the grade, model year of the offered vehicle, colour, included equipment and expected delivery in the proposal.

Matching NZ$49,990 references still need matching delivered quotes
Auckland Auto Group lists B10 BEV Design at NZ$49,990 including GST and excluding on-road costs. Armstrong's order wording adds premium paint and ORC, with a paint surcharge except Pearl White. Geely publishes an MRP of NZ$49,990 including 15% GST, also excluding ORC; the Complete sheet lists extra-cost colours separately. The two starting numbers match, but that is not a completed tie in what you will pay.
Request cash proposals for the same date, paint choice, on-road items, accessories, charging equipment and delivery location. Do not apply one dealer's ORC allowance to both cars. Ask what registration, initial road-user-charge provision, plates and other delivery items are included rather than assuming every dealer uses the same bundle. We do not calculate current RUC rates or a monthly running-cost result here.
B10's advertised NZ$2,000 finance contribution runs from 1 September to 31 October 2026 while stocks last, subject to eligible approved finance. It is not a NZ$2,000 cash reduction. The deferred-payment offer is not interest-free: interest accrues during the deferral. Geely's separate 1.88% finance example uses a deposit, 36-month term and fees. Compare the whole loan, including its deposit and total repayments, rather than ranking a contribution against an interest rate. Neither offer establishes your personal approval or cheapest total.

Design adds ventilation; Complete already has electric heated front seats
B10 Design's local range table marks six-way electric adjustment for the driver, four-way electric adjustment for the front passenger, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof and 12-speaker audio. The same page identifies the 14.6-inch central display and 8.8-inch instruments. These are reasons to book a demonstration, not measured advantages in comfort or sound quality.
EX5 Complete is not a bare entry car: its column includes six-way driver and four-way passenger electric adjustment, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heat-pump air conditioning and rear air vents. It uses a 15.4-inch central screen, 10.2-inch instruments and six-speaker audio. The Complete column does not mark ventilation, massage, driver memory, a passenger legrest, HUD, panoramic roof or electric tailgate; those belong to Inspire in this sheet.
Have each regular driver set up the seat from scratch, then ask them to change temperature, demisting, navigation and a frequent audio control. Check reach and reflections rather than choosing the bigger display. If B10's ventilation is useful in your daily parking conditions, it may matter more than an extra warranty year. If you rarely use it, the rest of the car and contract should carry more weight.

Try the family load instead of ranking incompatible boot figures
Geely's current sheet labels its cargo figures as 302 litres with rear seats up, 410 expanded and 1,877 with seats folded. Keep those labels: the 410 figure is not automatically the same loading arrangement as the first one. We have not closed an equivalent current B10 measurement from the local sources used, so we do not invent a litres-based winner or import a larger figure from an overseas comparison.
The Complete sheet also shows a two-stage reclining rear backrest, 60:40 folding, a central armrest and under-seat storage. Test how those features work with the people who normally sit there. Set the front seats first, install the child restraints according to the manuals, then bring the same pram and bags to each car. Do not gain boot capacity by moving or folding a seat that your trip needs occupied.
EX5 is 4,615 mm long in the local sheet. That helps you check the parking space, but it does not measure knee room or prove easier entry than B10. Try door opening beside your usual boundary, lift the actual load over each sill and check where charging cables live. We have not done this family-fit test for you.
434 and 430 km WLTP do not justify buying for four extra kilometres
The local B10 Design declaration is up to 434 km WLTP; EX5 Complete publishes 430 km WLTP. Those references are close, and the four-kilometre nominal gap is not evidence that one will travel farther on your motorway trip. We did not drive them together with the same temperature, passengers, speed and arrival margin. The range-page headline of 450 km belongs to EX5 Inspire Extended Range, not Complete.
Auckland Auto Group advertises approximately 20 minutes from 30% to 80% for B10. Geely publishes the same nominal window and time on a 100 kW DC charger; the Complete sheet lists 100 kW maximum DC and 11 kW AC with a Type 2 CCS inlet. Equal published minutes are not a matched charging test: the batteries differ and the sources do not establish equal temperatures, preparation or sustained power.
For B10, ask the dealer to document the charging inlet, AC capability, cable and conditions of its stated session for the offered NZ vehicle; we do not complete that list with a European brochure. For either car, have an installer check the actual supply, circuit and permissions. Plan the public stop you would use, its compatibility and a reachable alternative. Peak power alone does not determine time at an occupied or limited station.

Geely’s unlimited-distance wording is for private owners, with conditions
The B10 dealer table publishes a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, whichever limit comes first, plus six years of roadside assistance. Ask for the full New Zealand contracts, required services, exclusions and battery-capacity terms. A dealer headline is not confirmation that every part has that same cover.
Geely Care+ states seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle cover and eight-year unlimited-kilometre high-voltage-battery cover for private owners. Its roadside assistance starts at three years and extends annually with scheduled Geely dealer servicing, up to seven years from first registration. It is not seven years of roadside assistance regardless of servicing. Ask for the exact conditions if your intended use is commercial or otherwise outside the private-owner description.
The Complete sheet still describes phone functions with scheduled OTA dates. A date that has passed does not prove a particular car has the required update. Bring your phone and demonstrate the applications you rely on in both cars. Also ask which workshop handles an immobilised vehicle and how connected services work after included periods. We have no comparable repair-time, insurance, reliability or resale evidence for this pair.

A feature list is not a joint protection or driver-assistance test
Both local equipment lists identify seven airbags and active safety functions. Geely Complete includes rear parking sensors and a surround-view camera, but the sheet reserves front parking sensors for Inspire. B10's dealer list describes its assistance package separately from its cabin upgrades. Ask for a demonstration of warnings and settings without treating a feature count as a score for usefulness.
We have not established a common, version-matched crash comparison that ranks these two offered NZ cars. Nor do we infer grip, wet-road safety or suitability for your driveway simply from rear-wheel drive versus front-wheel drive. Your tyres, loading and operating conditions matter; assistants require an attentive driver. Check child-restraint fit against the actual manuals rather than reading an anchorage count as a guarantee of multiple adjacent seats.
Local documents, and questions raised by an NZ shortlist
This is a documentary buying comparison using local sources checked on 20 October 2026 UTC, not a CathayEV road, charging or luggage test. An NZ buyer discussion puts B10 Design and EX5 Complete on the same family-EV shortlist. Its all-in price estimates and personal experiences help explain the cross-shopping question; they are not official offers or a representative reliability survey.
We keep the current Design BEV and Complete specifications separate from hybrid and Inspire versions. The unresolved items are the complete delivered proposals, B10 charging details, your installation and route, and how passengers and luggage actually fit. Experiences of different Chinese-market models or software do not settle those points for a New Zealand purchase.
Decide after the cabin demonstration, then compare the complete contracts
I would put B10 Design first for a buyer who actually uses front-seat ventilation and values its roof and audio package, provided the seat, controls and charging details work in the demonstration. I would not describe rear-wheel drive as an automatic handling advantage without driving these cars in relevant conditions.
I would put EX5 Complete first for a private owner who finds its heated cabin equipment and rear-seat arrangements sufficient and values the local coverage terms. Accepting the simpler Complete specification can be sensible; do not buy it expecting the Inspire items from a general website image. Longer advertised cover does not prove fewer faults.
If both fit, the next deciding document is a matched delivered quote and a workable charging plan. If neither passes the family test or regular route with an alternative, widen the shortlist. You can continue with other buying guides; this is a shared English-language index, rather than a dedicated New Zealand-only directory.
Questions before requesting a quote
- Are these two SUVs both NZ$49,990 drive-away?
- No. Both publish NZ$49,990 starting references including GST but excluding on-road costs. Paint, accessories, charging equipment and delivery details need matching proposals. A finance contribution is not a cash reduction.
- Is the cheaper B10 Ultra Hybrid Design the car compared here?
- No. This is BEV Design with 67.1 kWh and rear-wheel drive. The Ultra Hybrid EV uses a petrol generator and a different battery; its price and combined range are excluded.
- Does EX5 Complete have the advertised massage seats and powered tailgate?
- Not in the Complete column of the current NZ sheet. Ventilation and massage, HUD, panoramic roof and electric tailgate are Inspire equipment. Complete does have electric heated front seats, a heated wheel and a heat pump.
- Does B10’s extra four kilometres of WLTP range make it better for trips?
- No road advantage is established. B10 Design declares 434 km WLTP and EX5 Complete 430 km WLTP. Their nominal difference is not a matched-route result or a guaranteed reserve.
- Does Geely include seven years of roadside assistance automatically?
- It starts with three years and extends by a year with each scheduled Geely dealer service, up to seven years from first registration. Vehicle and battery unlimited-distance wording is for private owners and remains subject to conditions.
