A BVRLA-commissioned New AutoMotive study compared age- and mileage-matched MOT failure rates. For DVSA Class 4 vehicles aged 3 to 8 and at 90,000 to 120,000 miles, the report gives 16.5% for EVs and 22.1% for petrol vehicles. Class 4 includes passenger cars, taxis and small vans under 3,000 kg. The finding concerns Major/Dangerous MOT failures, not battery health or lifetime reliability. EVs also recorded more tyre defects. Check the actual car’s MOT/service history, tyres and separate battery-capacity evidence.
