SEAL 6 Touring Comfort vs Superb Estate SE L iV: family load and the actual UK order

Two UK plug-in estates: test the SE L seat and tailgate kit against Comfort’s real loading height and charging routine, then compare current complete offers.

The verdict

Book the Superb SE L iV first if its documented seat and tailgate equipment solves your family task. Keep SEAL 6 Touring Comfort alongside it when the actual load fits and a fresh cash proposal makes its charging and equipment useful. Both need a practical plug-in routine.

Buy the BYD SEAL 6 Touring Comfort if

The Comfort fits your passengers and luggage at the loading height you use, its overnight charging is sufficient and its current complete cash quote is attractive.

Buy the Skoda Superb Estate SE L iV if

The SE L seat and estate-tailgate equipment matters to daily use, the exact iV car passes the loading test and its current delivered proposal fits your budget.

The estate must improve the task you do every week

I would book the Superb Estate SE L iV first when front-seat adjustment and the powered boot equipment are central to daily use. Those are specific features in the current SE L list, worth trying with your family. They do not prove that its seats will suit you better or that the plug-in car takes more luggage than the BYD at a comparable loading height.

Keep SEAL 6 Touring Comfort in the same appointment plan when its usable load area and rear access work, and its current written proposal makes sense. Its documented 19 kWh battery and DC capability provide a concrete plug-in alternative. We have not closed a current Comfort cash quote, so an old finance price cannot establish that it is the cheaper purchase.

Both combine a petrol engine with external charging. They can preserve petrol-stop flexibility on an occasional long journey, but the value of choosing a plug-in estate depends on actually charging it during normal use. If charging requires a special trip every few days, include that inconvenience before concentrating on boot capacity or equipment. Obtain a current Comfort cash quote before treating the national Skoda reference as a price gap.

Order Touring Comfort and Estate SE L iV, not the similar-looking alternatives

The BYD selection is the UK SEAL 6 DM-i Touring Comfort, a front-wheel-drive petrol plug-in hybrid with automatic transmission and the 19 kWh battery shown in its UK sheet. It is not the Touring Boost with the smaller battery, or a SEAL 6 saloon. The national model route and a current dealer new-to-order estate listing establish a local purchase route without confirming an allocated vehicle.

For Skoda, use Superb Estate SE L 1.5 TSI iV 204PS DSG. The current UK list expressly identifies that combination. A generic SE L headline can describe the e-TEC petrol version; a Hatch, SE Technology or more powerful Sportline iV changes the order as well as the price. Confirm the full description, wheels, paint and options before comparing proposals.

The dates printed on the technical and price documents retain their original meaning. They are not proof of the build date or individual model year you will receive. A current ordering route does not allocate a VIN or guarantee a handover date.

500 litres and 675 litres can describe the same BYD boot

BYD separates 500 litres with load height limited by the rear-seat headrests from 675 litres limited by the head lining. Those are different uses of the same space. A family carrying passengers, a pram and bags needs to decide how high it will load and how it will secure that load; the larger number does not create more room beneath a cover.

Skoda's general Estate brochure advertises a large boot, but we have not established that its generic headline uses a matching procedure for the selected iV. Do not substitute the non-plug-in Estate's headline volume simply because both have the same name. Ask for the iV-specific load arrangement and demonstrate it with the seats you need upright.

Bring the same pram, mobility aid or holiday bags. Set the driver's seat first, then check rear access, child-restraint fit, loading sill, opening shape and space for cables. Try the tailgate under your garage door. An easier opening may improve the task more than an unmatched litre difference. Match usable loading height and the exact plug-in version before choosing from litres.

Plan an ordinary electric day before reading a long combined-range figure

The Comfort sheet declares 62 miles of electric combined WLTP range. That is the electric reference for the selected 19 kWh version, not the smaller-battery Boost and not a guaranteed winter commute. Its petrol-and-electric combined distance also cannot be treated as battery-only range.

Skoda's iV overview makes a general over-70-mile claim, but it is not a matched declaration for an identified SE L order in this comparison. We have not closed an exact electric-range specification for that unit and do not turn a generic claim into an eight-mile real-world victory. Obtain its current homologation reference with the chosen wheels and equipment.

Write down the daily route, return trip and reserve you need. Weather, speed, heating, passengers and battery state affect whether that day remains electric. Petrol gives a replenishment option beyond the electric trip; it does not make electricity access irrelevant or establish depleted-battery fuel consumption from a weighted plug-in figure.

Both publish DC capability, with different charging windows

Comfort lists 6.6 kW AC, 26 kW maximum DC and a 23-minute 30-80% reference. Its footnote calls for a CCS2 DC charger above 100 kW and 500 V, suitable ambient temperature of 25°C and other conditions. Battery temperature, initial charge and the station can change the session; the maximum is not an average charging power.

The Superb iV overview publishes up to 11 kW AC and 40 kW DC, with 26 minutes from 10 to 80%. It also quotes a home-wallbox time, whose full conditions must be matched to the actual order and supply. We have no joint session or complete stop measurement for the two cars. The 30-80% and 10-80% declarations are different tasks, not a three-minute charging victory.

For home use, compare what can be replenished while you are already parked. An 11 kW vehicle capability does not upgrade a household's supply, and an oversized wallbox cannot make the BYD exceed its own limit. Ask an installer about the circuit and permissions; ask the retailer which leads and accessories are supplied. A public rapid stop can be useful, but its tariff, access and waiting time still count.

£45,230 is a national reference, not the completed two-car price gap

The Skoda list valid from 1 October 2026 gives recommended OTR £45,230 for this SE L Estate iV. It separately identifies RRP £44,450 and P11D £45,060. Those values serve different purposes; P11D is not the cash invoice. The list's tax notes refer to registration after 1 April 2026 and warn that options and charges can change what is paid.

A current Comfort cash/OTR quotation remains open. We have not renewed a September-ending BYD finance campaign or treated its advertised purchase figure as today's unconditional cash price. Obtain paint, delivery, registration, tax, accessories and offer eligibility in one written proposal before subtracting anything from the Skoda reference.

For running costs, use your actual electricity price in £/kWh, petrol spending, miles driven and charging losses. Weighted plug-in mpg combines fuel and battery use; it is not a petrol-only result for an uncharged car. No matched consumption test or personal usage data supports an annual saving or payback claim. Financing needs its own deposit, interest, term and final-payment comparison.

Try the selected seats and tailgate before paying for the grade

The SE L equipment page lists heated and ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable front seats with memory and a powered boot with virtual-pedal operation. Its sliding parcel shelf is identified as Estate equipment. That makes a demonstration worthwhile if loading with occupied hands or finding a suitable seating position is a frequent problem.

Comfort's UK table lists a 360° camera and its own driver-assistance equipment. Do not infer that a camera angle measures image quality, that a longer list guarantees crash protection or that Skoda's grade features are automatically absent from the BYD. The useful question is which actual controls and access arrangements suit the people using them. Test the actual seats, tailgate and daily controls rather than assuming the grade name proves comfort.

Obtain insurance and servicing quotes for the exact selections. Ask which workshop will diagnose either powertrain and what the applicable vehicle, battery and mobility cover requires. We do not have equivalent repair-delay, reliability or resale data that would turn either established presence or a warranty headline into a measured ownership advantage.

China-side evidence

Keep overseas experience tied to an identifiable specification

A report about a Chinese-market saloon or a different BYD battery can help prepare questions, but it does not establish the equipment, service or ownership cost of this UK Touring Comfort. Equally, a Superb review of a diesel, e-TEC or different iV grade does not settle the load arrangement of the chosen estate.

We have no matched sample of owners of these exact configurations that measures failures, degradation or satisfaction. Check the date, version and documented service response before using an anecdote. During the test drive, try the phone connection, navigation, climate controls and warnings that you use regularly. Those observations can influence your choice without becoming a universal reliability claim.

Owner reports, complaint records and recall notices from the Chinese market, each with the source and the date we read it. Sample sizes are small; read them as signals, not survey results.

Make the decision after the family test and current proposals

Choose the Skoda appointment first if the documented SE L seat and estate-boot equipment addresses your main inconvenience and the iV version passes your loading test. Put Comfort alongside it when its real load arrangement, daily electric capability and a fresh complete offer work. If neither loads or charges practically, expand the shortlist through the UK guides rather than defending a headline number.

This is documentary research from current UK sources read on 19 October 2026 UTC. The BYD specification keeps its December-coded revision; the Skoda price list is valid from 1 October. Dealer direct-access failure and a separate successful reading of the current official dealer page are recorded separately. No order, finance application or road, load, winter or charging test was carried out. Exact vehicle years, availability, handover and completed personal quotations remain open.

Questions before comparing the estate orders

Is 675 litres the usable BYD boot beneath the same limit as 500 litres?
No. The UK sheet labels 500 litres at rear-seat headrest height and 675 litres at the head lining. Use the height at which you will actually load, and compare the exact iV arrangement with the same objects.
Does 23 minutes mean the Comfort charges faster than the Superb?
That BYD reference covers 30-80%; the Skoda iV reference covers 10-80%. They are manufacturer declarations with different windows and conditions, not a shared timed comparison.
Can the generic SE L £41,875 headline price this plug-in estate?
The current price list identifies £45,230 recommended OTR for Estate SE L 1.5 TSI iV 204PS DSG. The e-TEC and other grades are separate rows; request a completed current quote.
