BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring Comfort vs Volkswagen Passat Match eHybrid: UK equipment and quotes

The Passat Match has a documented lighting and parking package. Compare it with the exact Touring Comfort equipment schedule, charging hardware and current UK quote before choosing an estate.

The verdict

Start with the Passat Match if documented matrix headlights and a surround-view parking package are essential. Keep the Touring Comfort on the shortlist if its plug-in specification suits your routine, but obtain a readable Comfort equipment schedule and a current cash quote before choosing. The evidence establishes the Passat package; it does not prove that the BYD lacks equivalent equipment or establish a price saving.

Buy the BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring Comfort if

You can charge regularly, the Comfort estate passes your luggage and child-seat demonstration, and its written equipment schedule and final OTR quote make it the better purchase for you.

Buy the Volkswagen Passat Match eHybrid if

You specifically want the Match lighting and parking package, confirm it on your allocated car, and accept its final written price after comparing both quotes on the same basis.

Compare Comfort with Match, then identify the car on the order

These are two UK plug-in estates for a buyer who wants family carrying space without moving to an SUV. The BYD version here is the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING Comfort, with the larger battery in the UK two-grade specification. The Volkswagen is the Passat Match 1.5 TSI eHybrid 204 PS with six-speed DSG. A Passat diesel or a different eHybrid grade would be a different purchase, as would the smaller-battery Touring Boost.

Both have current local sales routes: BYD provides its UK Touring page and specification PDF; Volkswagen lists Match on its UK Passat page, and Anthony Motors lists the specific Match eHybrid derivative for enquiry. That establishes an offer to investigate, rather than an allocated vehicle in a particular colour. Ask each retailer to put the model year, build specification, options, VIN when allocated and expected delivery date on the quote. Volkswagen explicitly warns that current factory-order specifications can change and stock cars can be from an earlier model year. Neither a live model page nor the registration year settles the specification of your car.

The Match equipment case is clear; the Comfort comparison needs a readable schedule

Volkswagen names IQ.Light LED matrix headlights and a Travel Assist package for Match. Its listed parking equipment includes Park Assist Pro, Park Distance Control, Area View and a rear-view camera. If reversing into a narrow drive and driving on unlit roads are high priorities, this is a concrete package to examine on a Match demonstrator. Confirm the exact functions on the order and try the displays and controls yourself. Their presence is documented; their usefulness on your own drive remains a personal test.

The BYD PDF has equipment rows for the two grades, but the standard/optional symbols on the equipment page do not display reliably in the copy we could read. Blank rendered cells are not evidence that Comfort lacks headlights, a camera, heated seats or another feature. Request an accessible UK Comfort equipment list and have the retailer identify the fitted package. Equally, the Passat Elegance and Black Edition seat, wheel and suspension descriptions elsewhere on Volkswagen's page must not be reassigned to Match.

Loading needs a separate demonstration. BYD gives 500 litres when the load height is limited by the rear-seat headrests, 675 litres to the roof lining and 1,535 litres with the seats down. Those are three different arrangements. Calling it simply a 675-litre boot hides the usable height you may want to preserve for rearward visibility. We have no like-for-like Passat measurement here. Bring your pushchair, usual bags and child seats, leave the front seats in the positions you actually use, and check the parcel shelf, opening and tailgate clearance before deciding which estate works better.

Choose a plug-in routine before choosing a headline range

The Comfort's published 62-mile electric range is WLTP combined, rather than a promise of 62 miles on a cold motorway journey. BYD identifies a 19 kWh battery in this grade. Use the electric figure to frame your normal daily journey and charging access, with margin for weather, load and heating. We have not measured that route, battery consumption or petrol use. We also have not established the exact Match derivative's current homologated electric range in the sources used here, so there is no supported electric-range winner.

There is an unresolved detail in BYD's own charging information. The Comfort table says 6.6 kW maximum AC, while footnote 7 says AC charging can deliver up to 11 kW. Both appear in the same UK PDF. Do not price a wallbox or a shorter charging stop around an assumed 11 kW capability until BYD identifies the applicable specification for the car being supplied. The table's 2.7-hour AC example is 15-100% at 6.6 kW on one phase, rather than a zero-to-full promise.

BYD separately lists a 26 kW maximum DC rate and 23 minutes from 30% to 80%. Its charging footnote specifies a CCS2 charger above 100 kW and above 500 V, a suitable ambient temperature of 25°C, and variation with battery temperature, infrastructure and state of charge. That conditional top-up is not a full-battery time. Obtain the Match charging specification and compare equivalent intervals before using either car's charging claim to plan a regular stop.

Use the £44,285 listing to request a quote, not to manufacture a saving

Anthony Motors advertises £44,285 OTR for the Match 1.5 TSI eHybrid 204 PS six-speed DSG. It is a dated retailer catalogue reference checked on 21 October 2026 (UTC), rather than a personal offer for an allocated car. The same catalogue shows a separate PCP example of £536 per month, £6,642 deposit and 7.9% APR. Those monthly-payment figures are not an alternative cash price and are not enough to compare total finance costs.

We do not have a current Comfort cash/OTR quote on a matched basis. BYD's current page contains a finance offer for orders from 7 October to 31 December 2026, subject to participating retailers, availability, status and terms. It does not establish the missing cash price. An expired September finance illustration must not be used to fill that gap. Accordingly, subtracting an old BYD figure from the Passat catalogue price would not show what either buyer can save today.

Request two written quotes with the same purchase method, paint and options, delivery charges, first registration, first-year VED and VAT clearly accounted for. Then check insurance for the actual derivative and driver before paying a deposit. This comparison does not establish insurance groups, a current P11D-based company-car-tax amount, warranty exclusions, servicing costs or resale values for these exact cars. A business buyer should obtain the relevant current figures rather than treat an unknown tax or insurance entry as zero. A retail buyer should compare the cash totals and the cover they can actually obtain.

China-side evidence

Keep evidence from China separate from the UK order

The relevant specification is the UK Comfort or UK Match that the retailer can supply. A similar model name in China does not establish the battery, charging hardware, lights or driver assistance fitted to either UK order. No matched Chinese-market specification, dated Chinese price or attributable owner-rating sample was established for these two exact UK derivatives in this comparison. The entries below therefore record limits on the evidence rather than numbers borrowed from another car.

In particular, a Chinese sticker price converted into pounds would not answer the current UK OTR question. An owner score without its exact model, date and sample would not establish UK reliability or a warranty outcome. Use the local specification and contract to settle equipment, and ask for the current local warranty terms before assigning value to cover. This comparison makes no Chinese-market reliability ranking and no claim that either UK car inherits another market's features.

What this comparison establishes before you visit the retailers

The UK manufacturer pages, the BYD specification PDF and the Anthony Motors catalogue were checked on 21 October 2026 (UTC). The date records the source check, rather than a guarantee that prices, stock or equipment will remain unchanged. The BYD numerical table and charging footnotes were read together; its equipment-symbol problem remains unresolved. Volkswagen's named Match equipment was kept separate from the other grades on the same page.

The published group test used to identify this estate-shopping question compares Touring Boost with Passat Black Edition. Its driving verdict, equipment and price gap are not results for the Comfort and Match compared here. We have not road-tested these cars, measured their charging curves or verified a particular retail allocation. The buying sequence is to establish the Comfort equipment schedule and charging hardware, confirm the Match package and both allocated specifications, obtain comparable written quotes, and take the same family load to both cars. That gives you a decision grounded in the versions you can buy.

Questions before choosing a plug-in estate

Does the Passat Match definitely have more equipment than Touring Comfort?
The current UK Passat page documents Match matrix headlights, Area View and its parking package. The Comfort equipment symbols did not display reliably in the PDF we read. That supports checking the Passat package, but does not prove that Comfort lacks equivalent features. Obtain a readable Comfort schedule and confirm both supplied cars.
Can I use £44,285 as a firm price difference against the BYD?
No. It is the Anthony Motors Match eHybrid OTR catalogue reference checked on 21 October 2026 (UTC). The current Comfort cash/OTR quote is unknown, and an expired BYD finance example cannot replace it. Compare current written quotes with equivalent options and fees.
Will the Comfort cover my 62-mile journey entirely on electricity?
Its 62-mile figure is WLTP electric combined, not a measurement of your route. Temperature, traffic, load and driving can change the result. Confirm regular charging access and test a representative journey with suitable margin before depending on it.
Does the Comfort charge at 6.6 kW or 11 kW on AC?
The UK PDF table says 6.6 kW while footnote 7 says up to 11 kW. The conflict is unresolved. Ask BYD to confirm the charging hardware and specification of your allocated car before relying on an 11 kW charging plan.
Can I apply a Boost versus Black Edition road-test verdict to these trims?
No. Touring Comfort and Passat Match have to be assessed on their own specification and price. The group test concerns different derivatives. This comparison does not transfer its ride, equipment or value verdict to either selected car.
