Omoda E5 EX vs ATTO 2 Dynamic NZ: which conveniences justify the quote?

E5 EX adds powered and heated conveniences; ATTO 2 Dynamic has the lower current vehicle reference. Compare the actual grades, delivered proposals and charging windows, keeping the E5 battery conflict visible.

Choose the equipment you will use, then settle the delivered price

Start with ATTO 2 Dynamic if you want the lower current vehicle reference and are happy with manual seat adjustment, a rear camera and a manually operated tailgate. Start with E5 EX if powered front seats, its powered tailgate and heated rear seats solve tasks you perform every week. Those are specific differences worth trying; they do not prove that the Omoda is better value for every household.

The current New Zealand references are NZ$40,990 plus ORC for ATTO 2 Dynamic and NZ$44,990 plus ORC for E5 EX. That NZ$4,000 catalogue difference gives a useful starting point. It is not the difference between two complete delivered cash quotes, and the E5's conflicting battery descriptions need resolving before its larger range label becomes a purchase argument.

EX and Dynamic are the exact NZ grades

The Omoda national page and Blackwells list EX above BX with a current NZ$44,990 plus-ORC reference. BYD's specific Dynamic page lists NZ$40,990 plus ORC and a 51 kWh battery. This is the battery-electric ATTO 2, not the similarly named DM-i plug-in hybrid, and not the Premium grade pictured or discussed elsewhere.

The dated NZ ATTO 2 sheet identifies a 51.13 kWh Blade battery, front-wheel drive and 130 kW for Dynamic. Its 1 February 2026 price is NZ$39,990 including GST and excluding registration, ORC and options. That is a dated document, not the current advertised price. Confirm its equipment and exact battery specification against the car proposed, along with build year and delivery timing. A sales or enquiry page does not allocate a unit.

Where the EX convenience equipment changes a daily task

E5 EX adds a 360-degree camera, powered tailgate, a power sunroof with shade and powered adjustment for both front seats. Blackwells specifically assigns heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel to EX. If you load shopping with your hands full, share the driving position or carry passengers who use the rear heating, test those functions rather than valuing an equipment list in the abstract.

Dynamic's column in the NZ BYD sheet has a rear camera, rear parking sensors, manual six-way driver and four-way passenger adjustment, and manual tailgate operation. Electric unlocking is not the same as powered opening. Its 360-degree camera, front sensors, panoramic roof and heated/ventilated powered front seats are Premium equipment, not additions we can put into this Dynamic comparison for free.

Ask for a demonstration of the grade quoted. Check the E5 tailgate's opening under your garage roof and the seating adjustment with both regular drivers. If Dynamic already meets the task, paying more for conveniences you will rarely use is hard to justify. If a specific convenience is essential, compare the cost of the appropriate BYD Premium separately rather than silently changing the opponent.

Four thousand dollars is a reference, not an ownership saving

NZ$44,990 minus NZ$40,990 is NZ$4,000 between the current starting references. Using the older NZ$39,990 ATTO 2 PDF would wrongly make that current reference gap NZ$5,000. Neither result establishes the final delivered difference. Request the same cash basis with GST treatment, ORC, registration, applicable RUC, paint, accessories and delivery clearly itemised.

The February BYD sheet lists Ski White at no charge and several other colours at NZ$990. Confirm current paint pricing rather than treating that dated allowance as a promise for any stock vehicle. Ask Omoda for the matching colour and roof configuration. For credit, compare deposit, fees, term, repayment schedule and total payable; a weekly amount is not a cash price.

Both need electricity, so budget for the charging installation your property actually supports, insurance, servicing, RUC and your mix of home and public charging. We have not established matched real consumption, losses or household tariffs. A bigger battery label does not by itself show a lower electricity bill or a payback period for the higher proposal.

Resolve the E5 battery description before comparing capacity

The current Omoda national page gives the BX base a 58.9 kWh battery and lists EX additions. Blackwells gives the base 61 kWh before the EX additions. These are two current references, not an explained gross-versus-usable distinction. We have not established whether they describe different builds or capacity definitions. Ask for the specification matched to the EX being offered.

The E5 headline is 430 km WLTP-EST; the ATTO 2 NZ sheet states 345 km WLTP. The laboratory labels help identify the products, but they do not demonstrate an 85 km difference on your motorway trip. Nor do 58.9, 61 and 51.13 kWh establish comparable usable energy. Load, weather, speed and reserve at arrival affect the route you can actually complete.

If an E5 seller resolves the unit's battery and that car better covers your regular trip with a sensible reserve, that can strengthen its case. Until then, keep the specification uncertainty in the decision. We have no common winter, motorway or loaded-family test that would turn either range label into a guaranteed journey.

Twenty-eight and 38.6 minutes cover different windows

Omoda advertises 28 minutes from 30% to 80%. The dated NZ ATTO 2 sheet states 38.6 minutes from 10% to 80%, with a Type 2 AC port rated 7 kW and CCS2 DC rated 82 kW. Those windows start twenty percentage points apart, so their subtraction is not a measured charging-time advantage. A peak rating is not power maintained throughout a session.

The E5 battery conflict also prevents us assigning older charging hardware indiscriminately to every EX currently offered. Have both sellers confirm the inlet, AC/DC limits and supplied equipment on the proposed cars. For BYD, the sheet lists a portable charging cable and V2L adaptor, but confirm the delivered items. V2L export is a separate function, not faster charging into the battery.

Check installation, available electrical capacity and permissions before buying. Then check compatible public sites, access, tariffs and an alternative on the routes you use. If both cars can replenish overnight in your available parking time, convenience equipment and delivered cost may matter more than either quoted fast-charge session. We have not measured a charge curve or included queueing in those manufacturer times.

A shorter body is a reason to try the parking bay

Omoda publishes a length of 4,424 mm and width of 1,830 mm; the BYD sheet gives 4,310 mm and 1,830 mm. ATTO 2 is shorter on those published figures, not narrower. Confirm mirror measurement conventions, door clearance and turning access with the actual cars before calling either an easier garage fit. A 360-degree image does not reduce the space the vehicle occupies.

ATTO 2's sheet declares 380 litres minimum boot capacity and 1,320 maximum, together with a 60:40 rear split. These are manufacturer configurations, not a common loading test against the current E5. Keep the seats you need occupied, fit your child restraints, and load the buggy and normal bags. Try access to the lower storage and check what the supplied puncture or spare-wheel equipment occupies.

Adjust the front seats first, then check rear knee room, buckle access and the centre position with the passengers who will use it. Neither a larger nominal volume nor a powered tailgate fixes an unsuitable seating or loading arrangement. We have not performed this joint family-fit trial.

Confirm the unit, the software and the coverage

The NZ ATTO 2 sheet lists ACC, AEB, blind-spot detection and cross-traffic functions for Dynamic. Omoda lists its driver-assistance functions locally. Their presence does not make either car autonomous or establish a safety winner; we have not matched both proposed units to the applicable crash-test assessment. Have the dealer explain the operating limits and demonstrate the controls with supervision.

Pair your own phone and test the features you rely on. The BYD sheet's connectivity entries and footnotes contain different connection wording, and software availability can depend on the device. An OTA label or a demonstration of a higher grade does not prove the delivered car has every advertised feature.

Omoda's detailed ownership material distinguishes seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle cover from eight-year high-voltage-battery cover; a shorter banner uses an eight-year heading. Get the certificates and servicing conditions applicable to the EX. Obtain the BYD warranty and maintenance schedule for the ATTO 2 offered as well: this research did not close its complete current contract. We do not rank reliability, parts delays or resale from coverage headlines.

The two useful outcomes after the visits

Choose ATTO 2 Dynamic if its current delivered proposal fits your budget, the manual seats and tailgate suit your household, and its documented configuration meets the trip after charging is planned. Its smaller published length is worth checking in a tight bay, but do not buy a Dynamic expecting Premium cameras, heated seats or a panoramic roof.

Choose E5 EX if its powered access, heating and seating conveniences make everyday use materially easier, the family fits, and its higher delivered quote remains acceptable after the battery and charging identity are resolved. If the seller cannot close a decisive specification, retain that uncertainty rather than assuming the most favourable number. Neither catalogue range nor the number of convenience features substitutes for the practical demonstration.

Sources, date and limits

New Zealand primary sources checked on 20 October 2026 UTC: Omoda, Blackwells, ATTO 2 Dynamic and the explicitly dated 1 February 2026 NZ sheet. The dated sheet supports its stated grade equipment; current delivery correspondence still needs confirmation. We retained the conflicting E5 capacity and the older BYD price instead of silently combining them with current offers.

Driven Car Guide's December 2025 first drive explicitly places E5 among ATTO 2's local electric alternatives. Its driving impressions and launch prices establish historical context, not our test or today's quote. This guide includes no own driving, charging, consumption, loading or ownership study. Practical recommendations remain conditional on the unit and proposals described above.

Questions before choosing EX or Dynamic

Is the current vehicle-reference gap NZ$4,000 or NZ$5,000?
The current NZ$44,990 E5 EX and NZ$40,990 ATTO 2 Dynamic references differ by NZ$4,000, before ORC and matching quote conditions. NZ$39,990 is the dated February BYD PDF reference, not the current advertised price.
Does ATTO 2 Dynamic include the 360-degree camera and heated powered seats?
Those are Premium equipment in the dated NZ sheet. Dynamic has a rear camera, rear sensors, manual front-seat adjustment and manual tailgate operation. Confirm the exact delivered specification.
Does E5 charge faster because its claim is 28 minutes?
No equivalent comparison is established. E5 quotes 30% to 80%, while the ATTO 2 figure of 38.6 minutes covers 10% to 80%; E5 unit identity and session conditions also need confirmation.
Is the E5 EX battery definitely 61 kWh?
The current dealer base says 61 kWh while the national base says 58.9 kWh, with EX added to each. No gross/usable or build explanation has been established. Obtain the specification tied to the EX offered.
