OMODA E5 EX vs C5 EX: NZ charging access and run-out choice

Choose between the E5 EX electric and C5 EX petrol automatic around dependable charging, the current NZ run-out conditions and an exact supplied-vehicle quote.

Start with where you can reliably replenish the car

For a New Zealand household choosing between these OMODA EX SUVs, dependable charging is the first decision. Put the battery-electric E5 EX first if you can establish a suitable home or workplace charging arrangement, obtain the installation and energy prices, and plan the longer trips you actually make. Keep the C5 EX petrol automatic first if that arrangement is uncertain and you want to continue refuelling with petrol. Neither recommendation depends on a claimed fuel-saving payback or an assumed motorway range.

The C5 also has the lower advertised vehicle-price reference: from NZ$32,990 plus on-road costs under the current run-out programme, against the E5 EX's NZ$44,990 plus on-road costs. These are not matched delivered quotations. The C5 amount already incorporates its NZ$4,000 run-out reduction, and qualifying purchase and delivery must both take place within the offer window ending 31 October 2026, while stocks last. A low headline is useful only if the exact car and delivery meet those conditions.

Before signing, resolve the supplied vehicle's specification. Current national pages, linked MY2025 sheets and a dealer's advertised 2026 C5 do not align in every detail. There is enough evidence to compare the local buying choices, but not to promise a particular gearbox subtype, passenger-seat adjustment, power output or warranty simply by joining the sources together.

EX means an exact local version, not the cheapest range headline

The E5 page's lower NZ$40,990 range entry belongs to BX. The EX selected here is the NZ$44,990 version. It has a current national catalogue, test-drive and dealer route, but this research has not established an allocated EX VIN, supplied model year or delivery date. Its linked technical sheet is explicitly Model Year 2025, edition 1.03 from September 2025; that date must remain attached to the technical references drawn from it.

For C5, the national offer covers BX and EX, with different prices and reductions. The selected EX is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol automatic. An authorised Kidd Motor Group listing advertises stock 118281 as a new 2026 C5 1.5PT EX AUTO, with 13km displayed and NZ$32,990 plus ORC. That is a dated stock advertisement, not a reservation, a promise that the car remains available, or confirmation that it will be delivered before the offer deadline.

The national C5 page and July 2025 MY2025 sheet describe a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The stock listing states Auto without establishing the exact supplied-unit subtype. Obtain that specification in writing against the actual vehicle. The dealer's 2026 label does not establish a match to every row of the MY2025 sheet, and no older CVT specification has been substituted for this automatic listing.

The C5 offer requires delivery as well as purchase

The national C5 terms apply to eligible new BX and EX vehicles purchased and delivered between 20 August and 31 October 2026. They say the reduction is deducted at the point of sale, cannot be combined with another offer, is subject to stock and is not redeemable for cash. Fleet, government and rental buyers are excluded, and the importer reserves the right to extend, modify or withdraw the offer. Do not treat an order placed before the deadline as sufficient evidence of eligibility.

For the selected EX, the dealer advertisement shows NZ$32,990 plus ORC against a previous NZ$36,990 and describes the NZ$4,000 run-out saving. Subtracting another NZ$4,000 from NZ$32,990 would count that reduction twice. Ask the retailer to put the included reduction, qualifying vehicle and delivery commitment on the written offer, together with what happens if delivery slips beyond the eligible window.

Request two itemised delivered cash quotations, separating paint, on-road costs, accessories and any finance or trade-in conditions from the vehicle amount. The dealer's ORC note lists items such as registration, WOF, pre-delivery inspection, dealer delivery charges and RUC if applicable; the final amount and inclusions still need confirmation. For E5, keep the charging equipment and installation quotation alongside the vehicle offer. No delivered price difference has been calculated from the two national starting figures.

Establish the charging arrangement before choosing E5

The E5's MY2025 sheet describes Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC ports at the front grille. Its AC reference is 6.6kW on single-phase supply or 10.3kW on three-phase supply. Those are vehicle-side specification references, not a promise that an existing socket, workplace charger or proposed wallbox will deliver either rate. Confirm the supplied car's equipment, your available electrical supply, access permission and the installation requirements before relying on overnight charging.

The same sheet says the trickle charger is not included with the vehicle purchase, and its charger image is labelled as sold separately. Confirm the equipment, cables and installation actually included in your offer. If a workplace connection is your main plan, establish the hours, availability and price you can depend on rather than assuming a shared charger will always be free when you arrive.

For the C5 petrol automatic, there is no plug-in charging arrangement to establish for propulsion. That may make it the more straightforward choice for a buyer whose parking and charging access remain unsettled. It does not establish lower total ownership cost or faster journeys for everyone. Compare the refuelling and charging routines against your household's normal week and occasional longer regional trips, then test whether the arrangement remains practical when the usual charging opportunity is unavailable.

Keep the charge interval and range basis attached to the number

The E5 sources give different charging examples. The current national page shows 28 minutes from 30-80%, while the linked MY2025 sheet gives 30 minutes from 30-80% using a 130kW charger. Neither is a 10-80% result. The 130kW label describes the charger used in that example; it does not establish the vehicle's peak or sustained DC acceptance rate. We have not measured a charging curve or confirmed the charge time for a supplied current unit.

The MY2025 battery reference is 58.9kWh LFP, without an established gross-versus-usable distinction in this evidence. The 430km WLTP range is a manufacturer comparison reference, not a daily usable distance, a motorway guarantee or a promise for a particular New Zealand journey. The sheet itself notes that operating and environmental conditions affect actual results. No older NEDC range has been converted into a local real-world result.

For C5, the MY2025 sheet labels 6.9L/100km as an ADR81/02 laboratory combined reference. The dealer stock advertisement displays 7.7L/100km without a verified cycle. We have not chosen one as the delivered car's measured consumption or compared either directly with an E5 laboratory electricity figure. There is therefore no evidence here for an electricity-versus-petrol spending table, annual saving, break-even distance or ownership-cost winner.

Use the documents to identify what the actual car must confirm

The E5's current HTML lists 150kW and 340Nm, while the September 2025 MY2025 sheet lists 155kW and 288Nm. We retain both wordings as a source discrepancy; neither has been assigned as the confirmed output of the vehicle a buyer will receive. Those figures cannot support a performance winner, and this comparison includes no acceleration, braking or overtaking test.

C5 has a similar supplied-specification problem in its dimensions. The national page gives 4374mm length, 1830mm width and 1588mm height, whereas the MY2025 sheet gives 4351mm, 1831mm and 1662mm. The exact 2026 stock vehicle's dimensions have not been verified. Do not use the similarity of a webpage's E5 and C5 dimensions to infer equal cabin space, seating height or garage fit. Check the actual car against the people, child seats and luggage that will use it.

Passenger adjustment also needs a demonstration. The E5 EX MY2025 table lists a powered four-way passenger seat, separate from the manual BX row. C5's current site describes powered front adjustment, while its MY2025 table lists a manual four-way passenger seat. The exact adjustment of the advertised 2026 C5 remains unresolved. Request the supplied EX specification and operate the actual controls with the intended occupant; no comfort, adjustment-axis or seat-travel advantage has been measured here.

Confirm New Zealand warranty terms and a complete ownership budget

The E5 page's hero says an eight-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, but its warranty section states seven years for the vehicle and eight years for the battery. The separate New Zealand warranty page also states seven-year vehicle cover and eight-year high-voltage battery cover, subject to terms; it notes that some vehicle uses are limited to seven years or 150,000km. Do not turn the hero headline into a confirmed eight-year whole-vehicle advantage over C5.

Obtain the applicable New Zealand warranty contract for the actual car and intended use. The MY2025 E5 sheet's Australian warranty URL does not establish the governing local terms. The national C5 page advertises seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle cover, but usage conditions and the supplied contract still matter. No reliability result or probability of a warranty claim has been established from these durations.

For the budget, collect your actual household or workplace electricity prices, charging installation amount, likely public charging use, petrol prices, applicable road charges, insurance quotations and servicing terms. Resale and future costs remain unmeasured. Choose E5 when its charging arrangement and complete written offer suit your use; choose C5 when the petrol routine and qualifying supplied offer suit it better. The current C5 run-out is a purchase condition to verify, not a reason to skip the model-year and equipment checks.

Current NZ buying evidence, with older technical references kept separate

This comparison uses New Zealand national model and warranty pages, the two currently linked MY2025 specification sheets and an authorised current C5 stock advertisement. The source captures were retrieved on 22 October 2026 UTC, and their full text and the selected technical and seating tables were read. The E5 sheet is dated September 2025 and the C5 sheet July 2025; neither has been relabelled as a confirmed 2026 supplied-unit specification.

The stock advertisement is evidence of a local advertised sales route, not a confirmed allocation or reservation. The charging figures, fuel-cycle references, warranty wordings and equipment discrepancies remain attached to their sources. There is no independent road test, measured charging session, crash-performance comparison, reliability ranking or delivery guarantee here.

The practical next step is to take the same household brief to both retailers: the actual daily and longer trips, intended occupants, charging access, delivery timing and complete cash budget. Ask each to return a specification and itemised offer for an identifiable car. That gives the E5-versus-C5 decision a firmer basis than a range headline, an extra subtraction from the run-out price or an assumed equipment match.

Questions NZ buyers should settle before ordering

Is the C5 EX another NZ$4,000 below NZ$32,990?
No. The advertised NZ$32,990 plus ORC already includes the EX run-out reduction. The national programme requires eligible purchase AND delivery between 20 August and 31 October 2026, while stock lasts, with non-stacking and buyer exclusions. Confirm the complete delivered offer in writing.
Does the E5 need three-phase charging at home?
Its MY2025 sheet lists 6.6kW single-phase and 10.3kW three-phase AC references. Three-phase is not the only listed AC option, and neither figure guarantees the rate available at your property. Confirm the supplied car, suitable supply, charger, cables and installation; the MY2025 trickle charger is not included.
Is the E5 a 130kW DC car that charges from 10-80% in 30 minutes?
That is not established. The MY2025 example uses a 130kW charger for 30-80% in 30 minutes; current HTML says 28minutes for 30-80%. The charger label does not prove vehicle peak or sustained DC power, and neither interval is 10-80%. Actual current-unit charging remains unconfirmed.
Does the advertised 2026 C5 have the MY2025 gearbox and passenger seat?
The dealer listing confirms petrol automatic wording, not an exact supplied-unit gearbox subtype or a match to every MY2025 row. National material describes 6DCT, while current powered-seat wording differs from the MY2025 manual passenger-seat table. Check the actual supplied EX and its controls; no older CVT specification is imported.
Which has the longer vehicle warranty and lower running cost?
Neither winner is established here. E5 hero 8-year wording differs from its 7-year vehicle/8-year battery body and current NZ policy. Obtain the applicable NZ contract and usage conditions. Matched insurance, energy, road charges, servicing, installation and resale costs remain unknown; no payback has been calculated.
