SEAL U Comfort vs CR-V Elegance Tech: what would make Honda worth more?

Quote Comfort first if the actual stock car meets your family load and charging routine. Honda earns a higher quotation when its supplied practicality solves a repeated task.

The verdict

Quote Comfort first if its actual stock car carries the household comfortably and its equipment and charging meet your routine. CR-V Elegance Tech is worth the higher quotation only when its demonstrated loading, access and supplied equipment solve a task the cheaper proposal does not.

Buy the BYD SEAL U DM-i Comfort if

The selected Comfort stock car passes the family loading trial and the complete delivered quote remains materially lower.

Buy the Honda CR-V Elegance Tech PHEV if

The actual Honda loading arrangement and confirmed Elegance Tech equipment justify the extra amount you would pay.

Comfort is the first quote; Honda needs a practical reason to cost more

Start with a SEAL U DM-i Comfort quotation if you have home charging and want a family plug-in SUV without committing to Honda's higher advertised purchase reference. It still has to carry the people and luggage you use, and its advertised comfort equipment must be on the order. BYD's UK launch material specifies 11 kW three-phase AC across the range, although an appropriate home supply and an exact Comfort session still need checking. CR-V Elegance Tech deserves the second appointment when its loading arrangement, access and confirmed convenience features make a repeated family task easier enough to justify the extra amount on your own quotation.

That is a conditional shortlist, not a verdict that the cheaper advert automatically buys the better car. A household loading a large pushchair every day may value a particular boot shape more than an attractive equipment list. Another family may find both cars equally usable and gain little from paying more. Try the same family load with the required seats occupied before assigning a luggage advantage. Neither car has been packed, driven or charged by CathayEV for this comparison.

Comfort and Elegance Tech are the precise UK plug-ins

The BYD selected here is SEAL U DM-i Comfort, not Boost, AWD Design, the Seal saloon or the Seal 6 estate. Current Pentagon stock listings identify the Comfort with a 26.6 kWh battery, 1.5-litre petrol plug-in system, front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. The individual Lincoln and Warrington vehicle pages describe brand-new, unregistered cars with 15 miles shown, advertised in stock for immediate delivery and with the buyer as first registered owner. Those are specific retailer statements, not a reservation or a promise that the car will remain available when you enquire.

Honda's current UK specification page names Elegance Tech 2WD PHEV, with a 17.7 kWh battery and automatic plug-in hybrid system. It is not the non-plug-in CR-V or an older Advance Tech quotation. A reused engine-type cell says e:HEV, but the selected grade heading and charging table clearly identify the PHEV. Put the full grade and powertrain on the order. Battery capacity alone does not establish electric distance or household running cost.

Two BYD stock adverts and Honda OTR are different purchase references

On 21 October 2026, the identified Pentagon listings advertise Comfort at £33,490 in Lincoln and £34,500 in Warrington, each marked on the road. Honda's selected Elegance Tech page shows £47,795 OTR. The BYD figures concern individual advertised cars; the Honda figure is a manufacturer reference. We have not received matching personal cash proposals or established that either BYD car remains available to you.

Confirm the actual vehicle, registration status and delivered cash total before treating a stock advert and a manufacturer OTR price as a payable price gap. Ask about paint, registration, compulsory charges, accessories and delivery, and have new versus pre-registered status recorded. Although the general retailer disclaimer allows some new-car offers to concern pre-registered stock, these two individual vehicle pages explicitly say unregistered. Have that status, the advertised colour and any paint charge recorded on the contract.

Do not substitute an older BYD launch price or an expired finance offer for those current references. A PCP rate, customer deposit and final payment describe a credit transaction; they do not establish a second cash discount. If financing, compare the complete amount payable for the same deposit, term and mileage rather than the monthly headline.

Honda gives a clear seats-up boot measure; the loading trial still decides

Honda specifies 617 litres with the rear seats up using the VDA method. Its 1,100-litre seats-down figure is loaded to the window line; 1,710 litres is loaded to the roof. Those three numbers describe different arrangements. A family travelling with the rear seats occupied should start with the seats-up layout, not the largest folded-seat headline. Check the loading height, opening and whether the tailgate can operate inside your garage.

For this exact Comfort, we have not closed a directly comparable manufacturer luggage measure. BYD's UK launch article gives a 425-litre range-level reference, but does not state a matching measurement method and says further Comfort details would follow. The current individual Comfort advert leaves its luggage field unfilled. Those sources do not establish a precise usable-space difference from Honda's VDA figure. Use the same pushchair, cases or mobility equipment, keep the necessary passenger seats available and try access to the items you need during a trip. If both cars do the job, a larger catalogue capacity may not be a reason to spend more.

The exterior dimensions are more concrete: the Comfort stock specification lists 4,775 mm length and 1,890 mm body width; Honda gives 4,706 mm and 1,866 mm. The BYD body is therefore longer and wider on those declared dimensions. Neither number describes the extra clearance needed to open a door or tailgate. Measure your parking space and check the actual manoeuvre before treating either car as a better fit.

A dependable home connection matters more than the larger battery

Honda declares a 6.8 kW single-phase Type 2 AC charger and approximately 2.5 hours from 0 to 100% using the stated suitable supply and conditions, around 25C. Its lower-power domestic example is a different session. This is AC charging, even though a marketing heading calls it fast; it is not a DC rapid-charging claim. The installation, cable and actual supply still need to be suitable.

BYD's UK launch article, dated 20 May 2024, explicitly includes the 26.6 kWh Comfort and states that all SEAL U DM-i trims offer 11 kW three-phase AC and 18 kW DC charging. That is manufacturer documentation for the range, tied here to the current dealer-listed Comfort, rather than a charging test of the advertised car. Its AC rating requires a suitable three-phase connection: a house with a lower-power single-phase supply will not deliver the headline 11 kW merely because the vehicle supports it.

We have not established a full-session time for the current 26.6 kWh Comfort. The launch article's adjacent generic 35-minute DC example is not used as a Comfort-specific session. Compare the exact car and charging window on your available supply before claiming a faster home charge. A bigger battery may change the electric routine and the energy to replenish, but capacities and maximum ratings do not establish household running cost. Plan your regular day with reserve and obtain an installation survey rather than assuming an existing socket is ready for repeated vehicle charging.

Check the functions supplied, then decide whether they help

Honda's exact Elegance Tech grade listing marks a power tailgate, panoramic glass roof, front and rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, wireless charging and a heated leather steering wheel as included. These are useful functions to demonstrate rather than reasons to buy from the brochure alone. Check the tailgate's opening height, the reversing picture in your parking position and how easily each driver can operate the heating and demisting controls.

The individual Comfort stock specifications also list an electric tailgate, panoramic sunroof with an electric shade and heated steering wheel. They specify an eight-way electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, heating and ventilation. The historic UK manufacturer article describes electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats as standard across the range; the current individual advert directly supports the driver's functions. These are more useful grounds for a demonstration than the search page's feature filters. Have the actual supplied equipment confirmed on the order, as the retailer's specification data still carries a confirmation disclaimer.

A power tailgate or glass roof alone therefore does not explain paying Honda's higher reference price: both proposals list them. Honda's clearly included front and rear sensors and rear camera provide a concrete parking specification to try; an equivalent selected Comfort camera and sensor schedule has not been closed by these individual adverts. Ask for the selected grade equipment in writing and demonstrate the functions that matter to your parking routine. A screen or camera label is not our measured finding about visibility or usability, and assistance systems do not remove the driver's responsibility.

China-side evidence

A local specification is more useful than a brand assumption

The relevant BYD is a UK Comfort plug-in hybrid supplied through a local retailer. Equipment, software and battery details from an overseas version or a similarly named BYD are not evidence for that order. Likewise, the Honda recommendation relies on the current UK Elegance Tech PHEV page, not an older CR-V road test or a different powertrain's consumption.

We have not established a common reliability rate, repair time, insurance premium or resale outcome for these selected cars. Ask the servicing workshop to explain maintenance, warranty conditions, replacement transport and the route for a charging fault. Those answers may affect a one-car household more than a feature that is rarely used. The lower stock reference is a reason to investigate Comfort carefully; it is not proof that ownership will be cheaper in every case.

Owner reports, complaint records and recall notices from the Chinese market, each with the source and the date we read it. Sample sizes are small; read them as signals, not survey results.

Make Honda justify the amount on your own quote

Bring the regular drivers, child seats and awkward luggage to both appointments. Set the seats for the people who will use them, operate the tailgate in the space available and check the controls while stationary. Ask each retailer to document the exact vehicle, equipment, current cash total and charging information. Do not convert a loaded demonstration into a claim that a feature is standard unless it is on the proposed car.

Choose Comfort when that trial works and the confirmed lower purchase proposal leaves no important family task unresolved. Choose Elegance Tech when its actual loading or equipment makes a repeated task easier and you are willing to pay the verified difference. This is a document-based UK comparison checked on 21 October 2026, not our road test or a measured energy-cost study. See other UK buying guides for alternatives if either quotation fails your requirements.

Questions before buying either family plug-in SUV

Which BYD and Honda versions are compared?
UK SEAL U DM-i Comfort with the 26.6 kWh battery and current CR-V Elegance Tech 2WD PHEV with 17.7 kWh. Boost, AWD Design, older Advance Tech and non-plug-in CR-V specifications are not substituted.
Is the BYD advert a guaranteed national cash price?
No. £33,490 and £34,500 are identified individual stock references. Availability, registration status, paint, delivery and the final cash contract must be confirmed; Honda £47,795 is a separate manufacturer OTR reference.
Does Honda definitely have more usable luggage space?
Honda publishes 617 litres seats up by the VDA method. A matching exact Comfort measure has not been established here. Try the same load with the passenger seats in use before assigning a practical advantage.
Does 2.5 hours mean Honda has DC rapid charging?
No. Honda's stated session is approximately 0-100% using its 6.8 kW single-phase Type 2 AC capability under the specified conditions. BYD's 20 May 2024 UK all-trim specification states 11 kW three-phase AC and 18 kW DC, but no exact current Comfort session has been established here. Maximum power and different windows do not establish a time winner.
When would the Honda be worth paying more for?
When its actual loading arrangement or supplied equipment solves a regular family task that the Comfort proposal does not, and the extra amount is acceptable. Both selected proposals list a power tailgate and glass roof; those features alone do not justify a premium. If both meet the task equally well, start with the confirmed lower delivered quote.
