SEAL Design vs Mazda6e Takumi: UK equipment, charging and the quote
Choose by the supplied cabin, charging routine and complete order. Mazda’s £38,995 recommended OTR and its business lease are different propositions.
The verdict
Start with SEAL Design if its included Nappa front seats and clearly specified UK charging equipment suit your routine. Start with Mazda6e Takumi if its fastback access, standard camera equipment and £38,995 recommended on-the-road price make the more useful complete order. Try both with your passengers and luggage. Mazda’s business lease and BYD’s retail APR do not establish a cash-price winner.

A saloon or a fastback is only the start

The useful comparison is between the UK MY26 Design and the UK Takumi EV258PS, not the most expensive SEAL and a Mazda with every option. Both offer a substantial electric-car specification. Decide which features are requirements, which are pleasant extras and which you would pay to add. That keeps a showroom demonstration from quietly changing the comparison to a different grade.
For a household sharing the car, both regular drivers should adjust the seat and mirrors, connect a phone and operate the controls they use most often. Check the rear seats with the front seats in those positions. A camera system, glass roof or premium audio badge can be a reason to demonstrate a car, but it does not prove an easier daily routine.
Check the supplied grade and demonstrate the features; upholstery and equipment do not establish comfort.
Try the opening and your actual luggage with every required passenger seat available.
Charging intervals have different starting states and conditions; do not subtract them into a time saving.
Combined WLTP figures are laboratory references, not jointly measured motorway range.
Obtain complete retail proposals for the same date and equipment; a lease payment is not a cash price.
Keep Design MY26 and Takumi on the proposals
The selected SEAL is rear-wheel-drive Design with an 82.5 kWh Blade LFP battery in BYD’s UK MY26 leaflet. The table does not label that capacity gross or usable. Its 312 PS figure and its equipment column must not be replaced by the all-wheel-drive Excellence specification. The leaflet’s model-year label also does not guarantee the build or delivery date of a particular car.
The Mazda is the rear-wheel-drive Takumi EV258PS with a 78 kWh battery and 190 kW output. Takumi Plus is a separate grade. The current configurator identifies Takumi at £38,995 recommended OTR, while the February fleet guide lists a £38,930 P11D value. Those prices have different purposes; the P11D entry is not a retail discount.
Both manufacturers currently provide UK sales or configuration routes for these choices. Ask for the exact derivative, paint, supplied equipment, allocation and delivery terms on the order. A configuration page establishes a local offer, not immediate stock of every colour. Do not commit on an assumed delivery date if the timing is central to replacing your present car.

Compare the seats, cameras and roof you will actually receive
Design’s UK column includes heated and ventilated Nappa front seats, powered adjustment for both front occupants and driver memory. The specification also lists a heated steering wheel, a panoramic roof, a heat pump, a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise. Its 15.6-inch centre screen and twelve-speaker Dynaudio audio are part of that package. A head-up display is not in the Design column; do not bring it over from Excellence.
Takumi’s UK fleet equipment list includes Black or Stone Maztex upholstery, 19-inch wheels, a 360-degree View Monitor with See-Through and Side View functions, front and rear parking sensors, and a panoramic tinted heat-reflective glass roof. The current configurator describes heated and ventilated front seats in its Takumi trim choices. Sony audio and wireless smartphone integration are further items to demonstrate on the supplied car.
Takumi Plus additions, including its different trim and electric sunshade, should not be silently added to base Takumi. If controlling sun exposure matters, have the seller demonstrate the chosen roof and shade arrangement. Try camera views in the conditions where you park and confirm phone compatibility before treating either feature list as decisive. Assistance systems still require an attentive driver.

The Mazda’s 15 minutes and BYD’s 37 minutes start at different charge levels
BYD’s UK leaflet specifies 11 kW AC and an 8.6-hour 0-100 per cent reference using a three-phase supply. It lists 150 kW maximum DC, 37 minutes from 10 to 80 per cent and 26 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent. Its charging footnote requires suitable charger power and voltage and describes temperature and battery conditions. These are declared sessions, not a promise for every service-area stop.
Mazda’s current UK page advertises up to 200 kW charging and approximately 15 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent. The stated conditions include a 78 kWh battery, a 200 kW station and an ambient temperature of 25°C ±2°C. The February UK fleet guide instead prints 195 kW maximum DC. We leave that difference visible rather than choosing one as a verified update to the other.
Do not compare Mazda’s 30-80 interval with BYD’s 10-80 interval as though both add the same share of charge. Even two 30-80 references are not a joint test under identical conditions. Ask Mazda to confirm the supplied UK car’s AC rating and charging specification; an Australian brochure cannot fill that gap. For home charging, have the installation and actual supply assessed before assuming that a vehicle maximum is available at your property.

Use the declared range to plan, then try the luggage
Design’s 354-mile combined WLTP reference and Takumi’s 348-mile combined WLTP reference are close enough that this should not become a six-mile purchasing contest. Neither is a matched winter motorway result. Weather, speed, heating, passengers and route change the distance between stops. Plan an important journey with a reserve, usable charging stops and an alternative rather than spending the full laboratory figure.
BYD declares 485 litres at the rear and a separate 72-litre front compartment for the UK Design. We have not closed a directly comparable UK Mazda boot measurement and loading method here. The Australian Mazda brochure’s capacity is not a substitute for that missing UK reference, and adding a front compartment does not establish the size or shape of a rear opening.
Mazda’s fastback layout is a practical reason to try it with the objects you carry. It is not proof that every pram, case or bulky item will fit better. Keep the passenger seats you need in use, try the load cover and check access after loading. If one arrangement clearly works with your own belongings, that can outweigh a small declared-range difference without claiming a new measured capacity advantage.

Keep the Mazda business lease separate from the retail comparison
Mazda’s current UK configurator gives a useful £38,995 recommended OTR reference for Takumi. Obtain a written retail order including paint, accessories and any other required charges. We have not established an equivalent current Design cash OTR quotation here, so there is no defensible cash saving to calculate between the two cars. Trade-in values should be separated from the new-car prices.
The Mazda page also advertises business contract hire at £349 plus VAT per month and £349 plus VAT initial rental. Its selected Takumi offer is a 36-month, 6,000-mile-per-year, customer-maintained business contract, subject to eligibility, status and excess-mileage terms. Eligible orders and proposals run from 1 October to 31 December 2026, with registration and finance conditions extending to 31 March 2027. It is a non-ownership product, not a £349 retail cash price.
BYD’s current SEAL retail campaign advertises representative APR from 1.9 per cent with a 49-month PCP example, eligible orders from 7 October to 31 December 2026 and participating-dealer and status conditions. That headline does not supply the exact Design deposit, final payment or total payable. Compare complete personal proposals if financing, rather than placing the APR beside a business lease rental.
Choose Design if its actual cabin and charging arrangements work and its complete order is competitive. Choose Takumi if the demonstrated fastback, equipment and correct retail or business contract fit the household or business better. This documentary comparison uses UK sources checked on 20 October 2026; we have not driven, charged or loaded the two together. See other buying guides if either fails a requirement.

Questions before ordering the UK car
- Is SEAL Design better equipped than Mazda6e Takumi?
- Design lists heated and ventilated Nappa fronts, powered seats and no head-up display. Takumi has its own Maztex, camera and roof package. Demonstrate the exact cars and check Takumi Plus additions separately; equipment count alone does not establish comfort.
- Does Mazda charge in 15 minutes while SEAL needs 37?
- Those figures use different windows. Mazda quotes approximately 15 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent under conditions; BYD lists 37 minutes from 10 to 80 and 26 minutes from 30 to 80. They are not a matched charging test.
- Is Mazda6e rated at 195 kW or 200 kW DC in the UK?
- The current UK website says up to 200 kW; the February fleet guide prints 195 kW. We retain both source references and ask the retailer to confirm the supplied car rather than declaring a verified specification change.
- Can I compare the Mazda business rental with BYD’s APR?
- Not as purchase prices. Mazda’s advertised business contract hire has VAT, term, mileage and eligibility conditions and does not create ownership. BYD’s retail PCP has its own deposit, final payment and status conditions. Compare complete proposals for the product you need.
- Which is the more practical UK family choice?
- Start with the equipment and seating you need, then load your own items. Mazda’s fastback access merits a trial; SEAL declares rear and front storage separately. There is no joint loading test or shared UK volume measurement here, so the actual fit and complete quote should decide.
