SEALION 7 Comfort vs Enyaq SE L 85: family space and occasional towing

Compare current UK Comfort RWD and the updated Enyaq SUV: towing declarations, family loading, charging windows and conditional price references.

The verdict

Start with Enyaq SE L 85 if occasional braked towing is an essential family task, then have the exact vehicle and loaded combination checked. Keep SEALION 7 Comfort on the list when its 750 kg declared braked limit fits the intended task and the larger car passes your family and parking tests.

Buy the BYD SEALION 7 Comfort if

Your intended load fits the exact Comfort vehicle limits, its family cabin works and the complete current proposal suits your budget.

Buy the Skoda Enyaq SE L 85 if

You need to investigate a braked load beyond Comfort’s declared 750 kg, or prefer the shorter Enyaq after testing the actual family load.

An essential towing task changes the first appointment

For a family that must occasionally move a braked trailer, I would book the current Enyaq SE L 85 assessment first. Its manufacturer table declares a 2,000 kg braked maximum at a 12% gradient, while SEALION 7 Comfort declares 750 kg. That is a useful reason to investigate the Enyaq; it is not approval for your particular car, towbar and loaded trailer.

If the actual intended load fits Comfort's limits, towing alone need not settle the choice. Try the passenger cabin, luggage opening and parking approach in both cars. The BYD is the larger exterior object, while the Enyaq has the larger published seats-up rear luggage figure. Neither fact replaces the same packing demonstration.

This order avoids paying for an attractive family SUV that cannot perform a non-negotiable task. It also avoids dismissing Comfort because an AWD SEALION 7 specification was mistaken for the rear-drive car. Confirm the actual car and loaded trailer combination before treating either catalogue limit as suitable.

Identify Comfort and the updated SUV SE L 85

The BYD selection is the current UK SEALION 7 Comfort: rear-wheel drive, a declared 82.5 kWh Blade LFP battery and 230 kW motor. The current national model route and linked specification identify it separately from Design AWD and Excellence AWD. The PDF does not establish the model year or build of a car available to you.

The Skoda selection is the Enyaq SUV SE L 85 in the brochure effective 1 October 2026. It has a declared 84 kWh gross and 79 kWh net battery, rear-wheel drive and 210 kW motor. Earlier 82/77 kWh references and the current Coupe's 82/77 kWh column do not describe this adopted SUV specification.

Both have current UK retail/configuration routes. Ask each proposal to identify the exact build, battery, wheels, paint, options and handover. A route to configure a car does not allocate stock or guarantee delivery.

Shorter body and a larger declared rear boot deserve a practical test

The BYD is declared at 4,830 mm long and 1,925 mm wide excluding mirrors; the Enyaq SUV is 4,658 by 1,879 mm. Subtraction gives the Enyaq 172 mm less length and 46 mm less body width. Measure the actual bay, mirrors, door-opening space and tailgate clearance before interpreting that as easier parking.

Comfort declares 520 litres at the rear and a separate 58-litre front compartment. The Enyaq declares 585 litres with seats up and a separate 21-litre frunk. These figures have not been established to one measurement procedure. Adding front and rear storage does not create one larger opening for a pushchair.

Install the same child restraints, set the front seats for the same adults and pack the usual luggage with all required seats upright. Check access around the restraints and whether the luggage cover still closes. Try the same family load and parking space; the litre figures are not a shared packing test.

Keep the current 84/79 kWh identity beside the range

The UK Comfort specification declares 300 miles combined WLTP. The current Enyaq SE L 85 brochure gives 373 miles combined WLTP. The national Enyaq range page also advertises an up-to range across configurations; the exact brochure row is the reference used here.

Neither number is a family motorway test, and neither describes towing range. Make a separate route plan for journeys with a trailer: charging locations, accessible bays, a destination fallback and a sensible arrival margin matter. Do not multiply the catalogue figure by an invented towing-loss percentage.

For ordinary commuting with overnight charging, seat access and parking may influence more days than the larger range declaration. For repeated long journeys, demonstrate the actual route planner and charging controls. Combined WLTP references help shortlist a route; they do not guarantee a loaded motorway distance.

Separate the two BYD percentage windows

Comfort's primary sheet declares 150 kW maximum DC, 32 minutes from 10 to 80% and 24 minutes from 30 to 80%. The 24-minute figure is not its 10-80% claim. Nor does Comfort inherit the Excellence AWD charging figures just because a review discusses both versions.

The selected Skoda table says circa 29 minutes to 80%, without stating the starting percentage in that row. We do not turn 29 versus 32 into a three-minute victory, infer an updated peak DC value, or supply a starting percentage from an older battery. The Enyaq starting percentage is unspecified here, so 29 versus 32 minutes is not a matched charging result.

The BYD specifies 11 kW AC and provides separately stated single- and three-phase examples. The Enyaq table gives circa 13 hours to 100% at 7.2 kW/32 amp, again without a starting percentage here. Have an installer assess the actual supply and total installation, then compare the energy needed for your own parked period. No shared charge test was performed.

Get complete proposals before valuing the difference

Skoda's 1 October price table lists SE L 85 at £42,060 recommended OTR. It separately illustrates £40,560 with an Electric Car Grant deduction. The brochure makes the deduction conditional on the qualifying car, configuration, purchase and grant requirements; the retailer must confirm the current position. It is not an automatic £1,500 discount for every advertised Enyaq.

We have not obtained a complete current Comfort cash OTR proposal. Earlier media prices, finance examples and another SEALION 7 grade cannot fill that gap. A conditional grant illustration and an unknown BYD cash quote cannot establish a price gap.

Ask both retailers to itemise the actual car, options, delivery, registration and applicable tax in a current cash proposal. Compare any finance contract separately. The brochure's old statement about zero vehicle tax is not used here as a current tax saving. For ownership costs, add your charging purchases, insurance, servicing and towing equipment quotations; no matched depreciation or annual-saving estimate is available.

A towbar preparation entry is not a fitted towing package

The Enyaq SE L equipment page lists towbar preparation. Have the retailer identify the installed equipment, its compatibility with the selected car and the actual permitted combination. The declared maximum in a brochure does not check the car's plate, towbar, nose load, passengers, luggage or your entitlement for you. Obtain that assessment before ordering for a fixed trailer task.

The same SE L page lists heated front seats and steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, rear camera, front/rear parking sensors and an electric boot with virtual pedal. It also says manual front-seat adjustment. Do not price Edition's or an optioned demonstrator's equipment as standard SE L.

For Comfort, have the retailer demonstrate and mark the equipment your family needs on the actual proposal. Take comparable drives to assess seating, controls, ride and noise. Assistance features are not autonomous driving or a shared safety result. Obtain current vehicle/battery cover, service and workshop arrangements for each car; this comparison has no matched repair-delay or reliability sample.

China-side evidence

Keep UK specifications attached to the UK order

Chinese-market SEALION 7 specifications and owner accounts can suggest questions but do not define the UK Comfort order. UK AWD towing and charging figures also do not migrate to Comfort. Skoda's updated SUV battery must likewise stay separate from older and Coupe references.

This comparison uses no overseas price, owner rating or complaint count to predict a British ownership outcome. If a feature or towing task decides the purchase, confirm it on the identified car rather than relying on similar-looking overseas footage.

Owner reports, complaint records and recall notices from the Chinese market, each with the source and the date we read it. Sample sizes are small; read them as signals, not survey results.

Choose the car that passes both the essential task and the ordinary week

Keep Enyaq SE L 85 first when the intended braked towing task needs investigation beyond Comfort's declared limit, or when its shorter body and actual family access work better. Keep Comfort first when the intended combination is confirmed suitable, its cabin passes the same family test and its complete current proposal is preferable. If neither works, expand the shortlist through the UK guides.

This is documentary research from UK manufacturer material retrieved on 19 October 2026 UTC, including the exact current technical and equipment columns. The 172 mm and 46 mm differences are editorial subtraction of declared dimensions. No CathayEV towing, road, packing, charging, winter-range or reliability test was conducted, and no individual car, trailer or personal quotation was inspected.

Questions before ordering either family SUV

Does Comfort have the same towing limit as AWD SEALION 7?
No. The current UK sheet declares 750 kg braked for Comfort, versus 1,500 kg for the AWD grades. Confirm the actual vehicle, fitted equipment and loaded combination; a brochure maximum is not an assessment of your trailer.
Is this the older 82/77 kWh Enyaq?
No. The adopted SUV SE L 85 is 84 kWh gross and 79 kWh net in the brochure effective 1 October 2026. The Coupe and some other columns still have different battery figures.
Is Comfort’s 24-minute claim from 10 to 80%?
No. It is 30-80%; the sheet declares 32 minutes for 10-80%. The Enyaq table’s circa 29-minute to-80% entry does not state its starting percentage here, so it is not a matched timed comparison.
Is £40,560 the unconditional price of every SE L 85?
No. It is the brochure’s separate grant-deducted illustration, subject to the qualifying car and purchase requirements. Obtain the current complete proposal and eligibility confirmation; the matched BYD cash price remains unknown.
