BYD Sealion 7 Comfort vs Peugeot E-3008 Allure 73: the UK family comparison behind the price and range figures

A current UK trim-by-trim comparison finds 288 mm less length, 68 L more quoted rear boot and 500 kg more tow rating for the Peugeot, while the BYD has richer seat equipment and quicker listed acceleration. The advertised prices and charging windows are not like-for-like.

The verdict

The E-3008 Allure 73-kWh is shorter and quotes more boot and towing capacity; the Sealion 7 Comfort gives stronger acceleration and richer standard seat equipment. No transaction-price or real-world charging winner without matched quotes and tests.

Why a popular Chinese EV is compared with this French SUV

The UK Sealion 7 is a model with current buying attention rather than a speculative launch: SMMT counted 3,191 registrations in September 2026, third in the BEV-model table it published. The number is for the model line, not the Comfort trim and not a complete ranking of Chinese EV searches. CathayEV's final UK Search Console export for 18 September to 15 October returned 44 query/page rows containing 'sealion 7', totalling 422 impressions but no clicks. Those are our site's impressions, not national demand. A UK pair-comparison result last verified in September shows that shoppers do consider Sealion 7 alongside E-3008, yet some of its listed prices, range and charge figures conflict with current manufacturer or dealer information. We use that page solely as a B-type comparative-intent signal. This article asks the family-load and quote-accuracy question for these two exact local trims, not the narrow-garage ID.4 question or a replay of the old third-party score.

Two live product versions, two non-matched price examples

The BYD is the British rear-wheel-drive Comfort with an 82.5-kWh rated battery, not the Design or Excellence all-wheel-drive model. The Lookers page read on 27 October advertises a new Comfort at £44,620.80 cash against £47,025 RRP, with its offer dated 7 October to 31 December and subject to stock and its terms. The Peugeot is the UK E-3008 Allure Electric 73 kWh 210 hp, not the longer-range 96.9-kWh car, GT or Allure Premium. A current Peugeot dealer listing shows an Allure 73-kWh example at £37,065 OTR; this should be treated as a specific advertised starting illustration until the dealer confirms the vehicle, location, included registration, grant and colour. The displayed difference of £7,555.80 is arithmetic between different sellers and terms, not a household's saving. Peugeot's May repricing made 73-kWh Allure eligible for the £1,500 UK Electric Car Grant, but a buyer must verify its application on the exact order and must not subtract it twice. Older national BYD finance terms ended 30 September; older third-party list prices are no substitute for fresh written, itemised quotations on the same date.

A smaller exterior may still hold more luggage on paper

The E-3008 is 4,542 mm long and 1,895 mm wide excluding mirrors against the Sealion 7's 4,830 and 1,925 mm. That is a 288-mm length and 30-mm body-width reduction, potentially useful for a short drive or a second household car, though mirror spread and door clearance have not been measured here. Peugeot quotes up to 588 litres for the rear boot on the non-dual-motor E-3008, 68 litres over BYD's 520-litre rear figure; BYD also has a separate 58-litre front storage compartment. Different boot shapes, shelf positions and measurement methods can reverse practical usefulness. Bring a folded pushchair, luggage, two child seats and the charging cable to both actual cars. Check the front passenger position with a rear-facing seat, the hatch opening under a low garage roof, and whether the Peugeot's sloping fastback roof limits a tall load. Do not infer adult rear-knee room solely from the longer BYD wheelbase.

The current same-cycle range comparison reverses an older web result

BYD's UK Comfort technical sheet states 300 miles WLTP combined. Peugeot's live UK product page states *up to* 326 miles WLTP for the 73-kWh standard-range motor family. The latter is not a guaranteed range for every wheel, option or approval code, so request the Allure 73-kWh car's Certificate of Conformity and exact dealer WLTP figure. Still, the current manufacturer figures do not support an old comparison site's 256-mile Peugeot number. The nominal manufacturer-page gap is 26 miles in Peugeot's favour, not a tested motorway lead. BYD quotes 82.5 kWh rated and Peugeot labels 73 kWh battery capacity; capacity definitions may differ, so an efficiency ranking calculated by blindly dividing these values would be false precision. Run each car's route planner for the same winter journey, with arrival reserve and likely motorway speed, then test drive. Neither figure predicts towing range, a roof box, heating load or queueing at a charger.

Charging: 10-80% cannot be ranked against 20-80%

BYD publishes up to 150 kW DC and around 32 minutes for 10-80% in suitable conditions. Peugeot gives up to 160 kW DC and around 30 minutes for 20-80% for its 73-kWh E-3008. The Peugeot time starts with ten percentage points more energy already present. The figures do not establish which car finishes an identical 10-80%, 20-80% or real motorway stop first; the old third-party claim of a 24-minute BYD 10-80% is not supported by the BYD technical sheet used here. Both makers quote 11-kW three-phase AC, but a standard UK single-phase home installation may supply less. Peugeot lists battery preconditioning as standard on E-3008 models built from October 2025; check software status for an older used car. Ask each retailer for a demonstration of destination-led preconditioning, charge-port access and the app, then test a real charger on the same day if possible. Vehicle-to-load is offered by both - BYD up to 3.3 kW, Peugeot up to 3 kW - subject to the appropriate accessory and device limits.

If a trailer is part of family life, check the plated vehicle

Peugeot's UK FAQ states up to 1,250 kg braked towing for the E-3008 210-hp electric variant; the BYD Comfort listing quotes 750 kg. The apparent 500-kg Peugeot advantage matters if a household actually tows a small caravan, boat or trailer, but is a maximum rating, not a recommendation to load to the limit. We have not verified the exact VIN plate, approved towbar, nose weight, gross train weight or payload of either stock car. A full family, bikes and luggage eat into carrying capacity. The vehicle's motor power - 230 kW BYD against Peugeot's 210 hp label - does not override its tow rating. Measure the trailer's real loaded mass, check driving-licence entitlement and ask the dealer to show the plate and towbar approval before ordering. Expect the trip's EV range and charging rhythm to change materially while towing, without importing an invented percentage from a different vehicle.

Allure is not Allure Premium; Comfort is not Excellence

Peugeot's base Allure has two 10-inch cockpit screens, wireless phone mirroring, reversing camera, dual-zone climate, hands-free access and a preconditioning feature. Its heated front seats and heated steering wheel belong to the separately named Allure Premium on the UK product page. The 360-degree camera is also in Allure Premium's added pack, and the large 21-inch curved display belongs to GT, not base Allure. BYD Comfort supplies the rotating 15.6-inch screen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic roof and, on the specified dealer car, a 360-degree parking view. These are feature-list distinctions, not proof that the BYD's interface is safer or that Peugeot's smaller screens are easier to use. Try both menu structures in daylight and darkness, pair the phone, switch climate and demist while driving, inspect physical visibility and judge the rear seats with actual occupants. Confirm optional packages, wheel size, heat pump and software version on the signed order sheet.

Both five-star references cover a relevant right-hand-drive electric variant

Euro NCAP's 2025 Sealion 7 assessment includes right-hand-drive Comfort 4x2. Its 2025 Peugeot 3008 assessment explicitly includes the right-hand-drive Electric 73-kWh 210 Peugeot 3008. That is stronger variant matching than borrowing a petrol-only or old left-hand-drive result. Both have five-star overall results, but the individual adult, child, vulnerable-road-user and assistance scores differ, and star counts are not a simple safety winner for a particular child seat or road scenario. Check the exact Allure and Comfort driver-assistance list, seatbelt reminder coverage and tyre specification against the tested configuration. Fit your own child seats and test sightlines. No CathayEV crash test, ADAS intervention trial or crash-rate observation is claimed.

Warranty headline years have different triggers and limits

BYD's UK general policy states six years/93,750 miles for the vehicle and a generic eight years/125,000 miles for the high-voltage battery, with model-specific terms requiring confirmation. Peugeot gives its EV traction battery eight years/100,000 miles with at least 70% capacity; do not confuse that with the whole-car cover. Peugeot Care consists of three years' standard manufacturer cover plus up to five years' additional conditional coverage, up to eight years or 100,000 miles when serviced in a participating network and renewed according to its terms. Ask both dealers for the exact VIN's warranty booklet, exclusions, service intervals, nearest qualified high-voltage repairer, appointment availability, courtesy-car policy and paid service plan. Published warranty length is not evidence of real repair speed or resale value. If a used Peugeot is offered, check preconditioning software update and the remaining transferable Care eligibility.

Price and electric running cost require the same household inputs

The displayed BYD and Peugeot examples cannot decide a five-year ownership bill. First request itemised, same-day on-the-road cash and finance quotations with the exact battery, trim, colour, registration, grant treatment, delivery, extras, deposit, rate, term, annual mileage and optional final payment. Then price a wallbox, metered home kWh, public rapid sessions, charging losses, tyres, insurance, tax, service, repair risk and expected resale separately. To show why charging mix can dominate a simple price-per-mile claim, an illustrative household using 3,000 metered kWh annually would pay £210 at 7p/kWh or £2,250 at 75p/kWh before other ownership costs. Those are hypothetical tariff endpoints, not measured consumption, a current universal tariff or a savings claim for either model. The BYD's bigger footprint may influence parking and tyre spending; the Peugeot's tow advantage may influence weekend use. Obtain two actual insurance quotes and real dealer service schedules. Neither a third-party five-year calculator nor one promotional monthly payment is a verified full-cost answer.

The family decision in three real scenarios

If the family owns a loaded trailer above 750 kg but within the Peugeot's plated approval and needs a shorter driveway fit, test the E-3008 Allure first. It also quotes a larger rear boot on paper, but confirm a pushchair and child-seat fit. If rear-seat warmth, ventilated front seats, panoramic roof and the BYD's quicker quoted sprint are more useful, test the Sealion 7 Comfort first, accepting its 288-mm longer body and lower tow ceiling. A buyer choosing on motorway use should not accept either a 326-mile 'up to' figure as a winter guarantee or a supposed six-minute BYD charge win from mismatched 10-80 and 20-80 windows. For anyone driven primarily by price, obtain same-day, equal-basis written OTR and finance quotes, including grant treatment. The true cheaper car may differ from these dealer pages. This is a source-checked desk comparison, not a road test; no claim about which rides better, repairs faster or retains value better can yet be made.

China-side evidence

No China-market specification is imported into the UK scorecard

A Chinese Sealion 07 or another BYD export trim may have different battery, charging, software, safety equipment or price. The subject here is the British right-hand-drive Comfort supported by the UK manufacturer/dealer sources. We did not find a matched Chinese-owner cohort for this British pack, nor a comparative UK owner survey for the exact two cars, so no durability or software-confidence verdict is inferred from overseas posts. For used stock, request the registration, VIN, service history and firmware level. For a new car, check the UK order code against the maker's current technical sheet before deposit. Any future owner-feedback article should separate UK Comfort experiences from Chinese and continental versions.

Where included, owner reports and complaints are individual accounts, not representative surveys; recalls apply only to the vehicles and markets stated in each notice. Check the source, market and date of each claim.

Source dates, mismatches and what remains unverified

Checked on 27 October 2026. The Chinese main model is supported by dated UK registrations, bounded site Search Console impressions and a dated UK comparison result. Current manufacturer model pages and dealer examples control the facts here; the older comparison page supplies only evidence of buyer interest. Peugeot's 'up to 326 miles' needs exact Allure homologation confirmation; price examples require fresh same-date quotes. Charging times use different starting percentages and are deliberately not ranked. The 2025 safety reports show relevant RHD electric variants, but individual order equipment must still be checked. We did not drive, charge, insure, tow or service the two cars; we did not obtain a matched owner survey or exact-pair monthly search volume. Recheck price, grant, stock, VIN documentation, warranty and public-charge access immediately before ordering.

Questions to put to both UK retailers

Does a Peugeot E-3008 Allure really go 326 miles?
The current maker page says up to 326 WLTP miles for the 73-kWh standard range. Ask for the exact Allure car's approved WLTP figure; cold motorway range will differ.
Does the BYD charge faster than the Peugeot?
The compared maker claims use different windows: BYD about 32 minutes from 10-80%, Peugeot about 30 minutes from 20-80%. There is no matched charge-time winner without a shared starting state and test.
Can I tow a 1,000-kg trailer?
The Peugeot 210-hp electric variant states up to 1,250 kg braked; the BYD Comfort states 750 kg. Check loaded trailer mass, exact VIN plate, approved towbar and licence first.
Is the Peugeot's eight-year cover the same as BYD's six-year warranty?
No. Peugeot Care adds conditional coverage after its three-year standard vehicle warranty, with network service and mileage rules. BYD lists six years/93,750 miles general vehicle cover. Both have separate battery terms; request VIN booklets.
Which car is actually cheaper to buy?
One BYD Lookers cash promotion and a separate Peugeot dealer Allure listing are not equal-basis delivered quotes. Ask both dealers for the same-day itemised on-the-road total, grant treatment and comparable finance terms.
