JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure vs Hyundai Tucson Element Hybrid: is the extra spend useful?
Pure starts £5,665 lower on the selected UK OTR references. Try the actual family load, rear-seat layout, controls and parking camera before paying more for Element Hybrid.
The verdict
Start with Pure if its seating, controls and luggage space work: its published OTR reference is £5,665 lower. Pay more for Tucson Element Hybrid when its actual family fit, rear-seat flexibility and camera are useful enough to justify the completed offer.

Which one solves the family task at a sensible price?
JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure is the first car to try when you want a family hybrid without a charging routine and are watching the purchase price. Its £29,210 published on-the-road reference is £5,665 below the £34,875 MY27 Tucson Element Hybrid reference. That is a meaningful starting difference. Choose the Hyundai if its actual luggage fit, more flexible folding rear seat or reversing camera makes a repeated family task easier enough to justify the offer you receive.
Do not make this decision using a JAECOO Luxury demonstrator or a Tucson Ultimate equipment list. These are the entry Pure and Element grades with the specified hybrid powertrains. Both need a practical check with the people, child seats and luggage you carry. A model-level comparison cannot tell you whether your particular rear-facing seat leaves enough room for the driver.
SHS-H Pure and MY27 Element Hybrid are the exact choices
JAECOO's UK page separates conventional petrol, SHS-H hybrid and SHS-P plug-in versions. The selected Pure has a 1.5-litre turbo petrol hybrid system, front-wheel drive and DHT transmission. Its small hybrid battery is not the plug-in model's 18.3 kWh battery. The page provides a current configuration and retailer route, but an available sales channel does not establish a vehicle allocated to your order.
Hyundai's current Great Britain technical and pricing document identifies the MY27 Element 1.6T 239 PS Hybrid 6AT. This is neither the 150 PS manual petrol model nor the 288 PS plug-in hybrid. Both suit a household that wants a hybrid without plugging in; choose from the exact supplied HEV specification. Ask the retailer to put the powertrain, grade, model year, build specification and proposed delivery date together on the order.

The published gap is £5,665; the actual proposal still matters
Pure leads on the published OTR reference; verify the car and complete terms before treating that difference as your saving. JAECOO's exact Pure column shows £28,200 retail including VAT, £500 delivery and £510 for VED including the first registration fee, producing £29,210 OTR. Hyundai's October MY27 table gives the selected Element Hybrid a recommended £34,875 OTR. Use that exact row rather than a Tucson range headline for a different engine.
These are manufacturer references checked on 21 October 2026, not two negotiated quotations. Request standard paint, required accessories, registration and delivery on the same basis. Establish whether each proposal is for stock or a factory order and when its price expires. If choosing finance, compare the deposit, all payments, optional final payment and mileage terms as a complete agreement. A monthly rental cannot be subtracted from a cash OTR figure to decide which car costs less.
Load the car with all the seats you still need
JAECOO declares 500 litres behind the seats and Hyundai publishes 616 litres VDA for Element Hybrid. The luggage figures use an unconfirmed common method, so test the same pushchair and bags before choosing. A numerical subtraction would promise precision that the sources do not establish. Check boot-floor height, the opening, where the parcel shelf goes and whether everyday bags still fit after the pushchair is loaded. Do this with the rear seats in their normal passenger positions.
Pure's rear backrests split 60/40; Tucson has 40:20:40 folding. Tucson offers the more flexible published rear-seat split; check the seats and passengers you need to retain. A narrow centre folding section may help with a long item, but only if its dimensions, restraint and remaining seating positions work for your actual load. Try fastening the child-seat straps and sitting in front of the installed seat before you decide that either layout is sufficient.

Try the Pure screen and Element climate dials
The Pure specification lists a 13.2-inch portrait central screen and fabric seats with manual front adjustment. Element's published equipment includes touch-sensitive climate controls with temperature dials, premium cloth and manual front-seat height adjustment. Neither selected grade should be credited with heated front seats from a higher trim. If heat, ventilation, powered adjustment or a panoramic roof is important, price the grade that actually supplies it before comparing the totals again.
Set up both cars for each regular driver. While stationary, change temperature, demist, connect the phone and return to navigation. Pure has front and rear parking sensors in its selected list; Element lists those sensors plus a rear camera and guidance system. Tucson includes a reversing camera in this grade; demonstrate the actual view and the parking manoeuvre. A useful camera can matter more in your driveway than the larger display measurement. CathayEV has not performed an on-road control or distraction test here.

China-side evidence
Keep the UK hybrid and its local support in view
An overseas specification, owner score or video of another JAECOO trim does not establish what the UK Pure supplies. The exact UK grade and the MY27 Hyundai order should carry the decision. Our sources do not establish a comparable long-term fault rate or a resale forecast for these two selected cars. Nor does the inclusion of driver assistance demonstrate a safety winner or allow the driver to stop supervising the journey.
For a household using one car, ask each local workshop how routine servicing, fault diagnosis and replacement transport are arranged. Consider the practicality of that support alongside purchase price. Do not assign a financial value to a longer warranty without understanding the actual cover and servicing terms. The useful comparison is the supplied vehicle and workable local support, not an assumed ownership result borrowed from a different market.
Owner reports, complaint records and recall notices from the Chinese market, each with the source and the date we read it. Sample sizes are small; read them as signals, not survey results.
Keep Pure on the shortlist unless Tucson improves the job
If Pure comfortably carries the household, you can use its controls and its parking aids suit your space, its lower published OTR reference gives it a strong case. If the Hyundai's seat split, luggage fit or camera removes a difficulty you encounter often, obtain the exact Element Hybrid proposal and decide whether that improvement is worth the amount. A richer higher-trim car on the forecourt is a separate purchasing choice.
This is UK documentary research checked on 21 October 2026. The purchase recommendations are editorial judgments based on the selected official specifications, not CathayEV road, charging, comfort, economy or reliability measurements. No guaranteed fuel saving has been calculated. A normal mixed-route test drive and an actual family loading exercise should settle the parts the documents cannot. See other UK buying guides if either entry grade fails the task.
Questions before choosing Pure or Element
- Do either of these hybrids need plugging in?
- No. This comparison selects JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure HEV and Hyundai Tucson MY27 Element 239 PS Hybrid 6AT. It does not use either plug-in version.
- Is JAECOO definitely £5,665 cheaper to buy?
- That is the difference between the selected manufacturer OTR references, £29,210 and £34,875, checked on 21 October 2026. Your actual saving depends on the supplied vehicle and complete retailer proposals.
- Does Tucson provide exactly 116 litres more useful boot space?
- That is not established. Hyundai states 616 litres VDA and JAECOO states 500 litres, with a common measurement basis unconfirmed. Try the same load with the required passenger seats in use.
- Are heated seats standard on both entry grades?
- The selected Pure and Element lists do not include heated front seats. Do not borrow heated or powered seating from JAECOO Deluxe or the higher Tucson grades.
- What should decide the extra spend on Tucson?
- A useful improvement in actual family fit, the 40:20:40 rear-seat layout, parking camera or local support may justify it. Compare the exact car and complete terms after trying the repeated tasks.
