OMODA 5 Knight vs JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure: UK no-plug SUV choice
Start with petrol Knight for a lower outlay and useful cabin equipment. The larger SHS-H Pure full hybrid needs to justify its £5,170 published-price premium through family fit and daily use.
The verdict
Choose the petrol OMODA 5 Knight if its cabin and boot fit your household and you want the lower purchase outlay without arranging charging. Consider the JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure if you want a larger full-hybrid SUV that also never needs plugging in, and its passenger space and driving behaviour justify the extra money. The current published OTR references are £24,040 and £29,210: a £5,170 difference, not a promise that fuel savings will repay it.

Two ways to avoid a charging dependency
Choose the petrol OMODA 5 Knight if its cabin and boot fit your household and you want the lower purchase outlay without arranging charging. Consider the JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure if you want a larger full-hybrid SUV that also never needs plugging in, and its passenger space and driving behaviour justify the extra money. The current published OTR references are £24,040 and £29,210: a £5,170 difference, not a promise that fuel savings will repay it.
This choice starts after you have decided that neither a home charger nor repeated public charging belongs in your routine. Both cars can be used with petrol-station visits. The JAECOO adds a full-hybrid system that manages its small battery as you drive; it does not give you the plug-in model’s separate electric commuting plan. The question is therefore whether its different powertrain and larger body improve your daily use enough to justify a higher purchase commitment.
Do not treat the JAECOO as an automatic equipment upgrade. Knight already includes heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery and a rear camera. Pure’s selected specification lists fabric seats and manual front-seat adjustment. A buyer who mostly travels alone, carries modest luggage and values those conveniences has a sound reason to start with the OMODA, even before considering the price difference.
Conditions behind the comparison
The £5,170 subtraction compares current published references; confirm both final quotations and any options.
Neither car requires a charging routine; the SHS-H is not the JAECOO 7 plug-in SHS-P.
The JAECOO is 127 mm longer, but these boot figures are not a shared luggage test or a matched loading configuration.
Pure’s selected list does not establish front-seat heating; do not transfer Deluxe equipment or infer comfort from the price.
Confirm the Pure camera specification separately and try visibility and controls from your own driving position.
Write the powertrain and grade on the order
OMODA’s current UK petrol Knight offer identifies the 147 PS 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It is a front-wheel-drive, five-seat model. The same OMODA 5 range page also contains hybrid and electric versions, with separate equipment columns. A feature shown elsewhere on that page is not automatically included on the petrol Knight.
The selected JAECOO is the front-wheel-drive 1.5T SHS-H Pure full hybrid, with a 1.83 kWh battery, DHT automatic and a declared 224 PS system output. The current range also contains petrol and plug-in variants. Ask the retailer to put SHS-H Pure on the proposal: SHS-P charging times, large-battery electric range and higher-grade cabin features do not describe this order.
Both current UK offer pages provide an enquiry and test-drive route for these exact grades. That establishes a current buying channel, rather than a particular car in stock or an assured handover date. Have the retailer identify the supplied model year, build, colour, equipment schedule and expected delivery before paying a deposit.

Compare the purchase commitment before the monthly headline
The current OMODA petrol Knight vehicle price is £24,040 OTR. JAECOO lists £29,210 OTR cash for SHS-H Pure. Their £5,170 difference is a useful starting reference for a private buyer, but it is not a forecast of depreciation, insurance, servicing or fuel expenditure. Obtain written proposals with the same paint choice, accessories, trade-in treatment and handover requirements before deciding what the JAECOO actually costs you to change into.
Each brand also advertises PCP. Those examples have their own deposits, credit terms, optional final payments and mileage conditions. Comparing only the monthly payment hides part of the commitment. If financing, request the complete total payable and return or purchase conditions for your actual mileage, then compare those proposals separately from the published OTR references. A low advertised APR does not itself make a car cheaper than a cash alternative.
The current campaigns cover eligible retail orders from 1 October 2026 until withdrawn, subject to availability. Credit is subject to status, UK residency and an age of at least 18; offers cannot be combined unless specified. An advertised campaign does not confirm that your chosen car can be delivered on a date you need. Keep the final quote and delivery agreement together, especially if the decision depends on replacing an existing car promptly.

Let the hybrid answer a driving need, not an assumed payback
For repeated urban journeys, the JAECOO’s full-hybrid layout is a reason to book a representative drive. Assess how it responds when pulling away, moving through slow traffic, joining a faster road and restarting after a stop. Those are questions about the actual car’s behaviour; we have not driven these two versions together or measured their fuel use. A system-output figure does not tell you whether its response, noise or controls will suit you.
The OMODA makes a different case: a lower purchase reference and a conventional petrol automatic in a shorter body. Test its low-speed manoeuvring, throttle response and dual-clutch behaviour on the sort of junctions and inclines you use. Do the same route in the JAECOO if possible. Neither a transmission label nor a power number substitutes for checking how confidently you can place and operate the car.
Do not assign a plug-in hybrid’s weighted fuel-consumption result to SHS-H Pure. Nor does the presence of a hybrid badge establish how much it will save against Knight on your commute. Without matched consumption evidence, annual mileage and fuel prices, there is no defensible repayment period for the £5,170 reference difference. If budget is the main constraint, the lower initial outlay is known more clearly than any future saving.
The larger body needs to earn its place at home
The current manufacturer dimensions put the OMODA at 4,373 mm long and the JAECOO at 4,500 mm. That makes the JAECOO 127 mm longer. Check the driveway, garage opening and places where a rear door must open beside another car. Length alone does not establish the turning circle, sight lines or whether you can reverse comfortably into a particular space.
Both have five seats, but seat count is a poor proxy for family fit. Install the child seats you intend to use, set the front seats for the usual adults and try entry and exit on both sides. For an adult rear passenger, check foot room, head clearance and access with the front seat in its real driving position. These tests can give the larger car a practical reason to exist in the budget; they can also show that the smaller one already does the job.
OMODA lists 380 litres of boot space. JAECOO’s current table lists 500-1,265 litres. The latter is a range across loading arrangements, not a single comparable amount that can simply be subtracted from 380. There is no shared loading test here. Take the folded pushchair, shopping crates or mobility equipment that matters, and examine the opening, floor and space left around it before awarding either car a luggage advantage.

Knight’s useful comforts versus Pure’s different cabin
The petrol Knight’s selected list includes synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats. JAECOO’s SHS-H Pure column lists fabric upholstery and six-way manual adjustment for both front seats. That column does not establish front-seat heating. Do not carry ventilation, powered seating or panoramic-roof features from Deluxe into a Pure quotation. Try the seat cushion, back support and adjustment range rather than assuming that the dearer car is the more comfortable one.
Knight lists a rear camera with dynamic guidelines and rear parking sensors. Pure lists front and rear sensors, but its exact selected equipment list does not close the camera specification. Ask the retailer to demonstrate the actual camera view before ordering; do not value a surround-view system merely because another JAECOO grade shows it in a photograph.
Both selected lists include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Knight has a 12.3-inch centre display and four speakers; Pure lists a 13.2-inch centre display and six speakers, alongside dual-zone air conditioning with rear outlets. Pair your phone, set a route and adjust the climate while stationary. Display dimensions and speaker counts describe equipment, not ease of use or sound quality. A short demonstration should settle which controls you can operate most comfortably.

Who should choose each car?
Start with Knight if the shorter car carries your household comfortably and you would rather keep more of the purchase budget available for insurance and ordinary ownership costs. Its heated seats and rear camera also give it specific everyday equipment value. The case is strongest when your passenger and luggage checks show no need for a larger SUV.
Move Pure ahead when its larger cabin and loading arrangement solve a real family problem and its full-hybrid behaviour suits your usual route. The reason to pay more should survive the test drive and the two final quotes. If the only argument is an unverified promise that the hybrid will eventually pay for itself, keep the decision open.
Ask both local workshops for the applicable service schedule, warranty terms and arrangements for diagnosis and repairs. Obtain insurance quotes for the exact derivatives. This comparison uses current UK manufacturer material checked on 20 October 2026; it is documentary research, not our own road or loading test. UK equipment is kept separate from Chinese-market specifications and from the brands’ other powertrains. For a different charging or body-size requirement, see other buying guides.

Questions before ordering
- Does the JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure need a charger?
- No. SHS-H is a non-plug-in full hybrid with a 1.83 kWh battery. It manages battery energy while driving and uses petrol. It is not the SHS-P plug-in model, so do not assign the latter’s electric range or charging times to Pure.
- How much more is the JAECOO in the current published prices?
- The current references are £24,040 OTR for petrol OMODA 5 Knight and £29,210 OTR cash for JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure: £5,170 apart. Confirm the two final quotations. This difference is not a total ownership-cost comparison or a guaranteed fuel-saving payback.
- Does the more expensive Pure include more luxurious front seats?
- Not by assumption. Petrol Knight lists synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats. SHS-H Pure lists fabric upholstery and manual adjustment for both front seats; its selected list does not establish heating. Check the actual Pure equipment rather than borrowing from Deluxe.
- Is the JAECOO definitely better for luggage?
- It is 127 mm longer, and its table lists 500-1,265 litres against OMODA’s 380 litres. Those published references are not a matched loading test. Test the specific items, seat arrangement and opening that your household needs before deciding.
- Are these the electric OMODA E5 and plug-in JAECOO 7?
- No. This comparison selects the OMODA 5 Knight petrol automatic and the JAECOO 7 SHS-H Pure full hybrid. Neither needs plugging in. The electric E5 and SHS-P plug-in hybrid answer different ownership questions and have different prices, equipment and energy-use figures.
