Book JAECOO for the front-seat kit; Kuga for the rear-seat task
Start with JAECOO 7 SHS-P Luxury if heated and ventilated front seats, powered passenger adjustment and occasional DC charging would make everyday use easier. Start with Kuga ST-Line PHEV if its sliding rear seats solve a recurring passenger-and-luggage problem and charging overnight on AC meets your needs. Try the actual seat positions and controls before assigning a value to either list.
Both are plug-in hybrids with a petrol engine, rather than battery-electric cars. They suit this question because the household can charge regularly; a petrol back-up is not a reason to ignore the charging routine. If you rarely plug in, this article has not established an energy-cost advantage for either. The decision changes with the demonstrated family fit, usable charging access and complete purchase proposals.
SHS-P Luxury and the 243 PS ST-Line are the selected UK versions
JAECOO's current UK offer identifies 7 SHS-P Luxury, the 1.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid. Its technical column is the front-wheel-drive 1.5 SHS selection. The separate Petrol AWD Luxury, Black Luxury and SHS-H hybrid columns do not define this order. The hero quotes an 18.3 kWh battery; the selected technical table gives 18.3-18.4 kWh. That is not a verified usable-energy comparison with Ford.
Ford's official 27.25MY price-list edition, effective 11 September 2026, identifies ST-Line 2.5 Duratec PHEV 243 PS, CVT automatic and front-wheel drive. It is not the 150 PS petrol, 180 PS self-charging hybrid or ST-Line X. A price-list model-year edition is not proof of the build date of an allocated car.
The current model, offer and specification routes establish local commercial offerings. Confirm the exact build, colour, equipment and delivery on the proposals. No VIN was allocated, vehicle inspected or order placed for this comparison.

Compare OTR with OTR, then obtain the actual contracts
The current JAECOO Luxury offer gives an OTR cash reference of £35,170. Ford's selected PHEV row gives £39,125 RRP including VAT and £39,320 recommended OTR. Ford describes OTR as including the first-year road-fund licence, first registration and an estimated number-plate charge, with delivery to the dealer included in its price basis. Confirm any further delivery, paint and options with the retailer.
Published OTR references do not establish two completed personal purchase proposals. Request the same registration and delivery basis, with accessories and any required charging work identified. The lower advertised reference does not prove that the equipped car you need, available when you need it, costs that amount less.
JAECOO also publishes a representative PCP example and Ford advertises separate finance offers. Credit eligibility, exact instalments, fees, final payment, mileage and return conditions belong to a written agreement. We have not reconstructed a total from rounded monthly headlines or treated lease payments as cash ownership. No personal finance approval, company-car tax calculation or purchase saving was established here.
Luxury includes ventilation; ST-Line heating needs the correct option
The current SHS-P Luxury column lists heated and ventilated front seats, six-way powered adjustment for both front occupants, four-way driver lumbar support, a heated steering wheel and head-up display. Its panoramic roof and power tailgate are also listed. Heated rear outer seats shown for the petrol Luxury are not transferred to SHS-P.
Kuga ST-Line lists a ten-way powered driver's seat with memory and an eight-way manual passenger seat. The current option table prices the Winter Pack at £550 including VAT for ST-Line, adding heated front seats, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. The Kuga Winter Pack is an extra-cost option on ST-Line, not included ST-Line X equipment. The price list also offers a separate ergonomic powered-seat upgrade; ask for the actual configured proposal rather than counting every option as standard.
Try the driving position, passenger adjustment, demisting, phone connection and frequently used controls. A powered or ventilated seat is useful only if it suits the person using it. This comparison has no own seat-comfort, climate-energy or software-usability result.

Try Kuga with the rear row where passengers actually need it
Kuga's current ST-Line specification lists second-row sliding seats. JAECOO lists 60:40 split-folding rear backrests. A sliding seat can exchange passenger space for load space; it does not guarantee both at once. Set the front occupants first, fit the child restraints, then move the rear row only within the position that remains usable for the passengers.
Bring the same pram, bags and charging cables and check that the tailgate closes with the required seats occupied. JAECOO's current model table declares 500-1,265 litres, while the independent review uses 412 litres. Their methods and version coverage were not reconciled. We have not established a matched Kuga boot measurement or a packing winner for these exact cars.
JAECOO lists a 540-degree camera label, front/rear sensors and a power tailgate. Kuga ST-Line lists a 360-degree camera, front/rear sensors and hands-free power tailgate. Camera labels do not measure image quality, visibility or the space your car needs. Demonstrate the approach, door opening and load access in the parking conditions you will use.

Use the overnight routine first; keep the charging intervals intact
JAECOO declares up to 56 miles electric range under WLTP. Ford's exact ST-Line PHEV row gives 42.9 miles equivalent all-electric combined WLTP range, distinct from its 29.8-mile extra-high reference. Neither is our loaded winter route, and a plug-in hybrid may use petrol under operating conditions that a headline electric distance does not describe. We have no common purchased-energy or fuel test for the two cars.
JAECOO's selected technical column gives 6.6 kW AC and 2.7 hours from 25 to 100%, plus 40 kW DC and 20 minutes from 30 to 80%. Ford's charging table gives three hours thirty at a standard 7 kW single-phase wallbox and six hours at its stated domestic-socket setup, with DC fast charging marked n/a. That wallbox rating is not automatically the car's onboard rating, and the Ford table does not state the same charge-percentage window used by JAECOO. Different charge windows and equipment prevent a common charging-time ranking.
Ford lists a single-phase public charge cable for the PHEV. The home-socket cable can replace it as an option, or be added at extra cost; confirm which equipment your order contains. Have the supply, permissions, protections and installed cost assessed for either car. A supplied cable is not an installed charging point.
JAECOO's DC capability adds an option on a compatible journey, but a short stop still needs accessible equipment, payment and realistic reserve. It does not make regularly inconvenient public charging a dependable home routine. If your overnight hours reliably restore the energy needed, cabin and family fit may matter more than a rapid-charge headline.

Price the service and cover that apply to the ordered car
Both combine a combustion engine with a rechargeable traction battery. Request the applicable vehicle, battery and high-voltage coverage, maintenance schedule, exclusions and local repair arrangements. A battery warranty is not the same as cover for every charging, engine or ancillary component. Insurance, servicing and the time without a vehicle can affect the choice even when the advertised price is attractive.
Both selected documents list braking and lane-related assistance, but those functions require supervision. A long assistance list or a BlueCruise-capable description is not a promise of unrestricted autonomous driving. No matched collision assessment or own assistance test for these ordered configurations was completed here. Demonstrate the controls and understand the limits before collection.
China-side evidence
Keep the British SHS-P column separate from overseas JAECOO equipment
The UK manufacturer page provides separate petrol, SHS-P and SHS-H columns. The SHS-P Luxury selection is front-wheel drive and includes the cabin equipment described here; another country's specification or a petrol AWD Luxury photograph cannot amend that order. Ford likewise needs the selected PHEV grade rather than equipment borrowed from ST-Line X.
No comparable China-owner sample was obtained to calculate local failure frequency, battery degradation, repair delays or resale values for this pair. Overseas stories may help frame questions for the retailer, but do not establish that a British unit will share an outcome. The local independent review supports a real Kuga alternative-shopping relationship; its road impressions and older charging figures are not CathayEV measurements.
Owner reports, complaint records and recall notices from the Chinese market, each with the source and the date we read it. Sample sizes are small; read them as signals, not survey results.
Choose the demonstrated task, then sign the complete proposal
Put JAECOO Luxury first when its included front-seat equipment is valuable after demonstration, its charge routine works and the complete quote is acceptable. Put Kuga ST-Line PHEV first when the sliding rear row resolves your load and passenger needs and its standard or explicitly optioned cabin meets your requirements. Neither should win because the other was compared with the wrong grade.
If either fails charging access, restraint fit, comfort or delivery, explore the UK guides. This is documentary research using public UK sources read on 20 October 2026 UTC. The Ford comparison uses the official 27.25MY list effective from 11 September 2026; confirm the equipment and availability of the ordered car. No own road, charging, luggage, winter-range, collision or reliability test was conducted, and no personal purchase quotation was completed.
Questions before ordering either UK plug-in hybrid
- Does SHS-P Luxury include the rear heating shown elsewhere on the JAECOO page?
- The SHS-P Luxury column lists heated and ventilated front seats. Heated rear outer seats appear with the petrol-only qualification in a different Luxury column, so they are not assigned to the selected SHS-P.
- Does Kuga ST-Line include the Winter Pack?
- The current UK option table lists it at £550 including VAT for ST-Line. It adds heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel; do not borrow ST-Line X standard equipment.
- Can Kuga use the same DC charging plan as JAECOO?
- JAECOO lists 40 kW DC and 20 minutes from 30 to 80%. The selected Ford price-list charging table marks DC fast charge n/a and gives AC wallbox/domestic references. Plan for the equipment each offered car actually supports.
- Are 56 and 42.9 miles measured electric trips?
- They are manufacturer WLTP references, with Ford specifying equivalent all-electric combined range. No common real route or winter test was conducted; retain reserve and confirm the actual routine.
