New G6 Long Range vs S07: Australian charging and cabin choices
S07’s current 20-inch driveaway offer and cabin equipment suit a local routine. New G6 Long Range adds much stronger declared DC capability; confirm the final driveaway premium and actual route benefit.
Cabin equipment now, or more charging capability?
Start with the S07 if its current A$47,990 driveaway offer, ventilated front seats and sunroof blind meet your needs. Consider the New G6 Long Range if its declared charging capability and longer WLTP range solve frequent intercity journeys. Obtain the G6’s postcode-specific driveaway quote before deciding how much extra it costs: its A$56,800 configurator reference is not the same price basis as the S07 offer.
Both are rear-drive electric SUVs with substantial battery capacity, but this is not the original G6 against a generic S07 brochure. The selected XPENG is the New G6 RWD Long Range with an 80.8 kWh gross LFP battery. The DEEPAL selection is the current new-car offer that expressly includes 20-inch wheels. Keep those choices on the quotations and demonstration requests.
A home-charged suburban routine can make seat comfort, controls, the sunroof blind and the amount payable more important than a peak charging figure. Frequent long-distance travel creates a different test: the charging stations on the route, their actual output and the car’s arrival conditions may determine whether the G6’s stronger declared capability is worth the extra outlay.
Specify the New G6 and the actual S07 offer
XPENG’s current Australian configurator separates RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range and AWD Performance. The Long Range block identifies a 218 kW rear-drive powertrain and an 80.8 kWh gross LFP battery. Older Australian G6 Long Range reviews describe a different battery and charging specification; their technical figures and driving impressions should not be carried across to this new version. Ask the retailer to identify the build and selected grade on the order.
DEEPAL currently advertises new S07 vehicles with 20-inch wheels at A$47,990 driveaway, while stocks last through participating retailers. The page also explains that the ordinary wheel specification is 19 inches and lists an optional 20-inch price elsewhere. That does not mean adding the option charge again to an offer already described as including those wheels. Neither online sales route confirms the exact car allocated to you, its build date or a guaranteed delivery date.

The price difference needs a postcode, not a subtraction
The G6 Long Range’s A$56,800 displayed reference is useful for identifying the selected grade, but a final payable driveaway amount for your postcode has not been established here. Ask for registration, stamp duty, compulsory insurance where applicable, dealer delivery, chosen paint and every compulsory charge in one proposal. Do not substitute the AWD Performance reference shown elsewhere in the configurator.
DEEPAL’s A$47,990 driveaway offer has a more explicit included-cost description. It covers the vehicle, 12 months’ registration, estimated stamp duty, any applicable luxury car tax, estimated compulsory third-party insurance for a private owner with a good driving record, and recommended dealer delivery. The advertised amount can still depend on location and the final quotation. Premium paint is excluded. The offer is for private customers at participating retailers while stocks last, excludes government, fleet and rental customers, and cannot be combined with the other discounts, subsidies, rebates or concessions listed in its conditions.
The two references therefore do not establish an exact all-in price gap. Request both written proposals with the same address and trade-in assumption. If considering XPENG finance, its separate 2.88 per cent fixed and comparison-rate promotion is subject to approval and detailed conditions, with applications and settlement by 31 December 2026. It excludes cars manufactured before 1 May 2026. A low interest headline is not a cash discount; compare the complete repayment proposal only if credit is how you intend to buy.
Demonstrate the cockpit and the comfort features
The S07’s appeal is not limited to its driveaway offer. The current Australian page lists heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof with an electric blind, an augmented-reality head-up display and a rotating 15.6-inch central screen. These are worth demonstrating if the car will spend sunny afternoons parked outside or carry two front occupants with different temperature preferences. Features do not establish seat comfort, cooling strength or ease of use without that appointment.
The New G6 configurator lists a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its separate instrument display gives you a concrete cockpit difference to assess against the S07’s head-up-display-led arrangement. Sit in the normal driving position, check the information you need, pair your phone and set navigation and temperature. Do this in the selected current build rather than assuming equipment from a promotional photograph or an older G6 review.
Both pages advertise parking assistance, including camera-based views. Check the view of the low kerb, warnings around the front corners and whether the controls remain easy to reach while manoeuvring. We have not driven these two versions or assessed their ride, road noise or driver-assistance calibration. Assistance features still require a responsible driver; they are not a promise of autonomous travel.

Compare the route and charging window, not just the minutes
The selected New G6 Long Range declares 525 km WLTP on 20-inch wheels. DEEPAL’s current S07 material declares up to 475 km WLTP, also displayed alongside its 20-inch selection. These are planning references rather than a common Australian highway test. Ask for the exact delivered wheel and homologation specification, then leave a margin for speed, weather, passengers and climate control. Neither figure establishes the distance you will achieve between two particular charging stops.
XPENG declares up to 451 kW DC charging and 12 minutes from 10 to 80 per cent for this New G6 Long Range. The S07 specification sheet lists up to 92 kW DC; its advertised 35-minute reference covers 30 to 80 per cent. Those are different charging tasks. It would be misleading to call the G6 23 minutes quicker at the same stop or to assume either car sustains its peak power throughout a session. Battery temperature, starting charge, station capability and shared site power can materially change the result.
For a frequent intercity traveller, the G6’s declared capability is a strong reason to investigate it first. Look at the actual chargers on the route and, where practical, ask for a demonstration using one of them. If most travel is local with overnight charging, the public-charging headline may have less financial value. Both selected specifications list 11 kW AC capability, but your home supply and installation determine what is available. An ordinary single-phase installation does not become an 11 kW charger merely because the vehicle can accept that power.

Load the passenger routine before choosing a volume winner
Bring the usual passengers, child seats and bulky bags to both demonstrations. Put the driver in the normal position before fitting a rear child seat, then try the front passenger’s adjustment and the route to the rear buckle. A listed ISOFIX position establishes an attachment provision, not that your particular seat and front occupant will be comfortable together. A panoramic roof or a large screen also says little about head clearance or whether a child finds the rear view comfortable.
XPENG declares 571 litres of luggage space with the seats in use, but a shared loading method and a matched S07 result have not been established here. We have not loaded a pushchair, mobility aid or holiday luggage into both. Check the usable opening, the height of the load floor and whether the required bags fit while the passenger seats remain usable. Repeat that task rather than choosing on an isolated litre figure.
If a tight garage matters, measure the actual entrance and the space needed to open the doors and tailgate. Test the camera picture with the driver seated normally. The 20-inch-wheel S07 offer is a specific commercial selection, not evidence that its ride or tyre costs match a 19-inch demonstration car. Ask for replacement tyre quotes for the exact wheel and tyre specifications on both orders.
Let the local support and the written order settle the choice
Before a deposit, identify the servicing workshop, obtain the relevant vehicle and battery warranty terms and compare insurance quotations for the exact builds. A national warranty headline does not establish the time to a local appointment or the coverage of every component. Ask how an immobilised vehicle is handled and what the retailer can commit to at handover. DEEPAL’s published stock and delivery language is conditional on availability; it is not an allocation of a particular car to you.
Confirm the charging cable and any vehicle-to-load accessory separately. DEEPAL describes its V2L cable as sold separately. Do not assume an advertised capability means every accessory is in the boot. The S07 web page and specification PDF also give differing wireless-phone-charger wattages, so we have not used either number to award a feature advantage. Try your phone and confirm the delivered equipment.
Australian source and test scope
Choose the S07 first when its confirmed driveaway proposal and demonstrated cabin equipment cover your ordinary week. Move the G6 ahead when its charging and electric-distance references answer a recurring travel need and the final driveaway premium makes sense. If neither meets the practical task, see other buying guides. This comparison is based on current Australian source material checked on 20 October 2026, not a CathayEV driving, charging or loading test. The written order should establish local equipment; overseas demonstrations do not establish Australian fitment.
Questions before ordering
- Is this the older G6 Long Range with an 87.5 kWh battery?
- No. The selected current New G6 RWD Long Range is listed with an 80.8 kWh gross LFP battery, 218 kW and 525 km WLTP on 20-inch wheels. Older Long Range battery, charging and driving-review information should not be transferred to this car.
- Does the A$47,990 S07 offer already include 20-inch wheels?
- Yes, the current offer expressly describes new S07 vehicles with 20-inch wheels. Do not add the separate generic wheel-option charge again. Premium paint is excluded, the offer is conditional and stock-limited, and the retailer must confirm your final driveaway proposal.
- Is the G6 exactly A$8,810 dearer?
- That is not an established all-in difference. A$56,800 is the selected G6 configurator reference, while the S07 figure is advertised driveaway under specific conditions. Obtain both postcode-specific final purchase quotations, with options and charges, before comparing the premium.
- Can 12 minutes and 35 minutes be compared directly?
- No. G6’s declared 12 minutes covers 10-80%, while S07’s 35-minute declaration covers 30-80%. Conditions and station output also differ. The G6 has much higher declared peak DC capability, but no shared charging trial or exact time saving is claimed here.
- Which cabin should I try first?
- Try S07 first if front-seat heating and ventilation, its sunroof blind and the current driveaway offer are priorities. Try G6 if a separate instrument screen and its declared long-distance charging capability matter more. Demonstrate the actual controls, seats, phone and exact delivered equipment before choosing.
