XPeng G6 RWD Long Range vs Volkswagen ID.4 Pro MY27: Australia

Shortlist the New G6 for its charging claim, or ID.4 Pro MY27 for documented cabin equipment. Compare actual builds and matched Australian driveaway offers.

Start with the journey or the cabin you need

Put the New G6 RWD Long Range first on your test-drive list if you regularly stop at suitable high-output chargers and want to investigate XPeng's 12-minute 10-80% charging claim. Put the ID.4 Pro MY27 first if the documented cabin equipment is what you want every day: heated electric front seats with memory and lumbar massage, three-zone climate control and a panoramic roof with an electric blind. Those features justify a demonstration; we have not tested either car's comfort with a family aboard.

The price decision needs one more piece of work. XPeng's selected Australian Long Range card displays $56,800, but the driveaway and tax/fee inclusions have not been established. Volkswagen advertises the MY27 Pro from $65,990 driveaway under a white-car, private-buyer campaign with a delivery deadline. Subtracting the two numbers would create a price advantage we cannot substantiate. Get matching postcode-based driveaway offers before choosing on cost.

This pairing uses the current Australian New G6 RWD Long Range and the ID.4 Pro MY27. It does not compare an older G6 battery or a Volkswagen GTX. The Volkswagen has the longer published WLTP figure in this selection, 546 km against 525 km for the G6 on 20-inch wheels. Actual touring range and the number of stops still depend on the trip.

Match the Australian versions and the delivered prices

The current XPeng Australian configurator identifies the RWD Long Range at $56,800. Its adjacent $63,800 Performance card is a different version. The selected Long Range has rear-wheel drive, an 80.8 kWh gross LFP battery and a stated 218 kW output. The configurator warns that equipment can change with production month, so ask the seller to identify the actual build and supply an equipment schedule for it.

Volkswagen's current national page separately advertises MY26 and MY27 Pro offers. Here we use the MY27 campaign and the MY27 Pro specification column. The campaign is for new Pro 1-Speed Automatic vehicles in white, purchased from 1 October 2026 and delivered by 31 December 2026, for private buyers and while stocks last. Other offers are excluded; options and metallic paint can cost extra. A dealer must confirm whether a particular car can meet that deadline.

Sources were checked on 21 October 2026 UTC. Ask XPeng for the final driveaway total, with GST, registration, delivery, chosen paint and any dealer costs identified. Ask Volkswagen for a quotation using the same buyer type and postcode, with the MY27 version written on it. Keep any trade-in or finance agreement separate so it cannot disguise the vehicle price.

What the selected batteries and range labels tell you

The current Australian G6 Long Range card gives 525 km WLTP on its standard 20-inch wheels. The ID.4 Pro MY27 brochure gives 546 km WLTP combined and specifies 19-inch wheels as standard. These are useful published comparison figures, with different vehicle specifications attached. They do not establish a real highway range, a guaranteed leg between chargers or a result with your family and luggage.

Volkswagen's model-page headline agrees with the current brochure at 546 km, while an FAQ on the same page says 547 km. We retain that source discrepancy and use the exact MY27 brochure figure here. There is no reason to turn a one-kilometre wording difference into a purchasing advantage.

The capacity labels also need care. The G6 card says 80.8 kWh gross, without a selected usable-capacity figure. The MY27 Pro brochure specifies 84 kWh gross and 79 kWh usable. Compare gross with gross when reading those labels, and avoid using 80.8 against 79 as though they were the same measure. The brochure calls the Volkswagen battery lithium-ion; it does not establish a more specific chemistry for this comparison.

Value the charging claim against your regular stops

XPeng quotes up to 451 kW DC and 12 minutes from 10-80% for this Australian Long Range. The selected card warns that actual charging time changes with vehicle condition, ambient temperature, starting charge, battery condition and charger type. We have not established the complete test-charger conditions behind that result or measured the car at an Australian charging site.

The MY27 ID.4 Pro brochure gives a 175 kW maximum DC figure, but a matching 10-80% duration was not established in the sources used here. A higher peak alone cannot supply the missing elapsed time, so we do not calculate how many minutes the G6 saves. Treat its charging specification as a reason to investigate a route and request a relevant demonstration, with the result dependent on suitable hardware and battery conditions.

For a household that charges overnight and seldom needs a public top-up, charging power may have less influence than the seats, controls and delivered price. Both selected vehicles list up to 11 kW AC. XPeng additionally quotes 9.2 hours from 5-100% under its stated AC specification; that window is different from the DC figure. Get an installation assessment for the property's actual supply and parking position. No wallbox price, electricity bill or payback estimate has been assumed.

The Pro gives you a documented cabin checklist

The ID.4 Pro MY27 equipment matrix marks heated electric front seats with memory, adjustable thigh support and pneumatic lumbar support with massage as standard. It also lists three-zone climate control with rear outlets, a fixed panoramic glass roof with an electric sunblind, and an electrically operated tailgate with Easy Open and Easy Close. Those are specific functions to check with the adults and children who will use the car.

Adaptive Chassis Control is marked standard on the Pro too. Try the available driving settings on roads like your own with the seats and load arranged as they will be used. We cannot infer a more comfortable ride from the equipment name, wheel size or a brochure photo. The actual seating position, controls and ride response should decide whether the package is worth the final quotation.

The selected G6 card is more explicit about its screens and connectivity than about individual seat, climate or roof functions. It lists a 10.25-inch driver display and 15.6-inch centre screen, along with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and app/OTA functions. An omitted comfort item is not proof that it is missing from the car. Obtain the equipment schedule for the offered production month before awarding Volkswagen an exclusive feature or rejecting XPeng on that basis.

Volkswagen specifies a 5.3-inch driver display and a 12.9-inch centre screen. Its Pro audio system has six front/rear speakers plus a centre speaker; the Harman Kardon system belongs to the GTX column. Try your own phone, navigation, air-conditioning controls and rear-seat temperature settings during the appointment. A larger display or a longer feature list does not establish that a family will find the system easier to use.

Bring the pram and check the actual load

XPeng reports 571 litres with the rear seats in use and 1,374 litres folded. Volkswagen reports 533 litres upright and 1,565 litres folded, with an overseas-data caveat in the brochure and seat-position qualifications in the local material. We have not matched the measurement methods, so those numbers do not prove which boot takes a particular pram, dog crate or set of bags.

Bring the awkward item that determines your purchase. Load it with the rear seats positioned for their regular occupants, then check the opening, floor height and space left for the rest of the trip. For the ID.4, the brochure's weight data can represent the heaviest worldwide configuration and may not describe the Australian vehicle's tare mass or payload. Obtain the actual local payload information for the car offered before planning a fully loaded family holiday.

A parking comparison needs matched definitions as well. XPeng labels 5.8 metres as a turning radius; Volkswagen labels 10.3 metres as a turning circle. They cannot be ranked directly. Try your own driveway or a comparable manoeuvre in the demonstrators, and check the vehicle's clearances and visibility. Neither this article nor the published litres establish that a particular household's car space or luggage will fit.

Write the equipment and running-cost questions into the offer

XPeng's production-month disclaimer makes the actual vehicle important. Ask which listed phone, connectivity and driver-assistance functions are present and activated on the offered build, and which depend on a later software release. The configurator describes XPILOT as driver assistance and makes the driver responsible for intervening when necessary. Its remote parking wording also requires compliance with applicable Australian road rules, with availability dependent on conditions and possible restrictions on public-road use. We do not treat a listed assistance feature as permission to leave driving responsibility to the car.

Keep the same discipline with the Volkswagen demonstrator: inspect the actual Pro's equipment rather than borrowing features from a GTX or an overseas photograph. Ask for the applicable warranty terms and service offer for each car, then obtain insurance quotations for the exact versions. We have not assembled matched service, depreciation, insurance or household-energy inputs, so there is no ownership-cost or resale winner here. A finance instalment should be evaluated with its deposit, final payment, total payable and contract terms alongside the separate driveaway price.

Make the two appointments answer the same family question

This Australian comparison uses the selected New G6 RWD Long Range configurator card, the current Volkswagen Australian MY27 offer and its Pro specification column. The Volkswagen sheet says its MY27 specifications were planned at April 2026 and may change; the current campaign and a dealer's exact vehicle quotation still need to agree. The older MY26 driveaway offer and the GTX battery/equipment column are kept outside the selected comparison.

We distinguish manufacturer specifications, unresolved source differences and our buying judgement. There has been no CathayEV test drive, charging session, real-world range measurement, loaded ride test or verified stock allocation for this article. A brochure cannot settle the remaining household questions, but it can make a test drive more useful.

For the G6, concentrate on the charging opportunity on your usual route, the actual production-month equipment and a complete driveaway offer. For the ID.4 Pro, try the documented cabin functions and confirm that the quoted MY27 car can meet the campaign conditions. Read the Australian G6 buyer guide for wider background, while checking the version and source dates attached to each figure.

Before you sign

How should I compare the two current Australian price references?
Get matched driveaway quotations before deciding which offer costs less. The G6 card displays $56,800 without an established complete driveaway and fee scope in this research. The ID.4 Pro MY27 campaign is from $65,990 driveaway for a new white car under private-buyer, date and stock conditions. Request matched postcode-based driveaway offers.
Does the G6 always charge from 10-80% in 12 minutes?
No. Twelve minutes is XPeng's manufacturer claim for the selected Australian Long Range. Actual DC time depends on charger type, vehicle and battery condition, starting charge and ambient temperature. We have not established a matching ID.4 Pro 10-80% time or measured either car at a charging site.
Which has the longer published Australian range?
The MY27 ID.4 Pro brochure gives 546 km WLTP combined. The selected New G6 RWD Long Range gives 525 km WLTP on 20-inch wheels. Volkswagen's model-page FAQ separately says 547 km; this comparison uses the current exact MY27 brochure figure and does not promise a measured touring range.
Does the G6 lack the Volkswagen comfort equipment?
That is not established by the selected card. Volkswagen documents the Pro's heated electric memory seats, lumbar massage, three-zone climate and electric roof blind. Ask XPeng to identify the actual production-month seat, climate and roof equipment before assuming that an omitted item is absent.
Which ID.4 battery and offer are used here?
The Australian MY27 Pro has 84 kWh gross and 79 kWh usable capacity in the current brochure. Its advertised campaign starts at $65,990 driveaway for new white cars bought from 1 October and delivered by 31 December 2026, private buyers only and while stocks last. It is separate from the MY26 offer and GTX specification.
