In China, the Leapmotor Lafa 5 scores 4.55/5.0 on Autohome — joint number one in its competitive class, tied with the Geely Xing Yuan. Owners praise the acceleration, interior material quality and fast DC charging. The grumbles are consistent: the 345-litre boot is tight for a compact SUV, frameless doors generate wind noise above 70 mph, and tyre roar is the most cited annoyance. A car quality survey from 车质网 in May 2026 rated it 83/100 — joint second among all 2026 model-year cars. That is a strong endorsement from early Chinese adopters.
The Smart #1 tells a more complicated story. Autohome gives it 4.07/5.0 with 112 faults per 100 cars — a middling result, ranking #16 of 76 compact crossovers. Chinese owners love the design and the German-tuned driving feel; they consistently complain about the base LFP range (short), slow infotainment boot, and Bluetooth key unreliability.
