Luxeed is not Omoda, Jaecoo or Fulwin. It is the joint venture Chery formed specifically with Huawei to produce premium EVs carrying Huawei's full autonomous-driving hardware stack. Where Omoda and Jaecoo target the volume market with competitive pricing and solid safety scores, Luxeed is Chery's answer to the question: what does a Chinese premium EV look like when built around the most capable domestic ADAS system in the world? The joint venture follows the same pattern as Huawei's other car partnerships — Avatr (with CATL and Changan) and Aito (with Seres) — but Chery brings an export machine behind it. In July 2026 Chery became the first Chinese brand to export more than 200,000 vehicles in a single month, a milestone that took all the established Chinese manufacturers by surprise. The company's cumulative global customer count has now passed 20 million. That hardware is ahead of anything Chery currently offers UK buyers, but it is in production now — meaning the pipeline for UK-specification ADAS upgrades is real, not aspirational. The UK Omoda E5 carries standard L2 active safety systems — autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise — within a 5-star Euro NCAP body (2025 test). That is the appropriate benchmark to evaluate it against, not the Luxeed RX's sensor count. Separately, Chery is deepening its international manufacturing footprint through a convertible bond deal with South Korea's KG Mobility (USD 75 million) to co-develop a mid-size SUV on Chery's T2X platform, launching in Korea and global markets from January 2027.

There is a temptation when a Chinese brand produces a car with four LiDARs to ask why the UK model doesn't have them. The answer is straightforward: LiDAR-enabled city navigation requires HD maps, type-approval under UK/Euro regulations, and integration with right-hand-drive steering geometry — none of which are simple or fast. No Chinese EV currently sold in the United Kingdom offers city or highway navigation on autopilot. That is a structural gap, not a software one, and it will not close with an over-the-air update. What the Luxeed RX does confirm is that Chery, unlike some Chinese entrants, has direct access to the industry's most capable ADAS partner (Huawei) at the hardware design stage. That engineering relationship tends to show up in volume models within two to three product generations. If you are buying an Omoda E5 today, evaluate it on the ADAS features it actually has — which are competent L2 systems with a genuine 5-star Euro NCAP rating — rather than on what a Huawei-badged premium sibling might do in China by 2028. The brand's survival credentials are the strongest part of the story: 20 million customers, 200,000 monthly exports, and a South Korean partner signing a bond deal worth USD 75 million all point to a manufacturer that will still be honouring its seven-year warranty when it expires.
