What Chinese-market evidence can and cannot tell a UK buyer
Both brands sell versions of these cars beyond the UK, but the UK Design RWD and Standard Range Single Motor specifications on this page come from their UK manufacturer material. A Chinese owner forum, factory story or different domestic trim does not establish the equipment, fault rate or resale value of a current UK-delivered car. The older article used unmatched Chinese owner ratings and claims about corporate survival to choose a winner. Those were not supported by comparable UK ownership denominators or a forecast method, so this revision removes that verdict. Use the UK model pages, exact order code and current dealer documents for a purchase decision.

This decision compares the UK Seal Design rear-wheel-drive saloon with the UK Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor fastback. Other grades have different batteries, prices, range and charging. None of their figures are used as the specification of these two cars. The car, specification sheet and written quote should name the same UK variant and model year before you compare them.
Price, range, battery, charging and storage
Checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Saigon). These are manufacturer-published UK references, not a matched road test. The Seal page displays £45,730 OTR from, 82.5 kWh and up to 354 miles WLTP combined. Polestar lists £45,210 from for Standard Range, 70 kWh and 344 miles. That is a £520 list gap and a 10-mile (2.9%) stated-range lead for Seal, calculated as (354 − 344) / 344. Polestar currently advertises £5,000 off for eligible orders from 1 October 2026 to 6 January 2027: its conditional reference is £40,210, making the gap £5,520. The offer excludes contract hire and depends on order, payment route and availability. BYD separately advertises 1.9% APR PCP; finance rate is not a cash discount.

Do not compare unlike charging windows
The 2026 Seal Design has a ten-mile higher WLTP combined claim than Polestar Standard Range Single Motor: 354 versus 344 miles. That is a laboratory-cycle difference, not a ten-mile promise on a cold motorway. Polestar lists a 180 kW DC peak and a 26-minute 10–80% stop for this grade. BYD’s 2026 UK release lists a 150 kW peak and 37 minutes for 10–80% for Seal Design. The stated window now matches, but battery size and test conditions differ. The 11-minute quoted gap is not an independent charging race. Check route, charger power, battery temperature and actual start and end levels.
Cabin, luggage and daily controls
The 2026 model-year BYD Seal Design has 485 litres in the rear and 72 litres in the front, according to BYD’s February 2026 UK release. Polestar quotes 407 litres in the rear including its 43-litre underfloor area, plus 41 litres in front. The stated rear gap is 78 litres, or 19.2% of Polestar’s quoted volume. Catalogue volumes do not establish which boot fits your own pushchair or cases: check opening shape, rear-seat and child-seat access in both cars. Polestar offers built-in Google navigation. BYD lists Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and V2L; confirm ordered-grade equipment and whether a V2L cable is included.
Safety evidence and the written warranty
Euro NCAP assessed the Polestar 2 in 2021 and the BYD Seal in 2023. Both historical results earned five stars under their own test-year protocols; confirm whether the assessment remains applicable to the ordered 2026 car and options. Euro NCAP notes that Polestar moved blind-spot information into an optional Pilot Pack after launch, changing Safety Assist scoring without changing stars. Polestar states three years/60,000 miles basic cover and eight years/100,000 miles battery cover. BYD’s 2026 Seal UK release states six years/93,750 miles basic cover and up to eight years/155,350 miles battery cover. If you meet the dated £5,000 offer terms, the arithmetic difference becomes £5,520; if you do not, that conditional figure is irrelevant. Compare same-day OTR quotations including delivery and any option packs, then estimate electricity from your own home/public charging mix. For PCP, compare deposit, term, mileage limit, optional final payment and total amount payable, not only monthly instalments or a headline APR. Insurance, tyres, service and depreciation vary by registration and use; this page has no matched UK quotes for them. The old guide’s assertions about Chinese-market owner scores and future brand survival did not establish a UK fault rate or a reliable residual-value forecast, so they are not a buying score here.

For repeated long journeys, compare your actual route and charging stops; their quoted 10–80% sessions differ by 11 minutes under different test conditions. For family equipment, load your own luggage and test child-seat access. Resolve BYD battery warranty wording with the dealer before a final decision.
